yay for you both xx

My DD only slept for 45 mins as a bub but at 18 months started having one 1.5hr sleep. It was bliss! I could actually do more than quickly get some lunch and do the dishes!

Hope it continues to go well xx

Smile Re: won't sleep long during the day

Hope it's all going well for you and bub Nerida.

Your post caught my eye because my DD would not sleep by herself in bed when in the first few months. She'd wake up after 5-10 minutes. I was mostly carrying her in the sling during the day anyway, but sometimes I did want to put her down. I resigned myself to her ways and ended up carrying her in the sling for all her day sleeps until she was about 5.5 months old, then gently, gently started putting her into bed for naps.

I guess my point is, I think they do learn to sleep by themselves. Now my DD (now 7 months) actually arches her back and wants me to put her down when going to sleep, so she's happy to sleep alone and isn't reliant on the sling. She's never been a big sleeper though, and seems full of energy after 45 mins. About half the time I'm able to rock her back to sleep or breastfeed and get another 45 mins in which to get some things done!

Thanks for sharing that with me. Of course I can change things with my son as a go along to best suit our family. You have shown me that it won't always be the same of course. I've also been reading Elizabeth Pantley's book No Cry Sleep Solution and have got a few more ideas that will help him sleep for longer stretches. Will just have to wait for the hols to be over to start in ernest.
