Default HELP! Trying to make yoghurt with Easiyo

Has anyone got an Easiyo yoghurt maker?

I've got a second hand one, with no instructions! I understand you have to use a sachet of yoghurt starter, but I've also heard you can just use normal yoghurt to start from, as long as it's one with live cultures.

I've tried this, but the yoghurt is only coming out as thick as cream after 12 hours... help!

I've only ever made it using the sachets which has the instruction on the packet. Have you tried the website?

I've only just done this and enjoying lovely thick yoghurt!

I searched the receipes forum and found a receipe for using a yoghurt starter.

I used 250g of fullfat milk powder with 2 tablespoons of Jalna biodynamic organic yogurt. added water, shook it up. topped up the water to the line then put it in the easyio
with the boiling water to the top of the red thing. and left it over night.
I was worried it might be very tart, but it's just right.
Only thing is DS has started fishing out the pieces of fruit rather than eating it as a whole, so i think i'll have to puree some fruit.

    Good luck!

Ok for the easiyo sachets, you just mix the sachet into a full container of the water, fill up the thermos with boiling water and leave for 12 hours. And I have found a way of making it cheaper ( I think there was a thread somewhere on this as well as making it with yogurt as culture) but if you put a cup of full cream milk powder in, three rounded tablespoons of the sachet mix and a bit extra caster sugar to taste then add the water, it comes out just as nice. this way a sachet lasts for half a dozen lots of yogurt and milk powder is heaps cheaper. You can mess about with the proportions to get it how you want. I keep the opened packet of yogurt powder in the freezer with one of those bag clips to seal it and it keeps fine.

Oh and the other thing is in winter if it's too cool it may take longer or not set properly at all. I found I couldn't do it at night-only during the day and if I added an extra inch of hot water in the thermos.

It's fun to mess around with till you find your ideal way of making it.

I'll go look for that other thread.

    Ha found it..

    http://forums.naturalparenting.com.a...o-yoghurt.html

The recipe is slightly different to what I said earlier, I'd go with that one, I think mine has morphed slightly..
The original one just has heaps of sugar, I don't think it needs that one.

    This is another good thread.

Hey thanks Ladies. This is awesome! I will definitely go out and buy some powdered milk, as I'm wasting heaps of lovely fresh milk with my failed attempts & tipping it down the drain. :(
I think I'll buy some sachets too & just practice with that until I get it right, then start experimenting. Where do I get the sachets?
Also, as my easiyo came without instructions, can anyone tell me where I fill to with the boiling water? Is it to the bottom of the red baffle, the top of the red baffle, or all the way to the top of the thermos?
    Cheers!

Yeah, you'll know when you've over filled with water because it'll overflow....I have done sometimes when I add extra past the top of baffle, get carried away and end up with water all over the bench when I put the jar in....

    Have fun!

Hi all, this great I always make yogurt with the easiyo sachets and go through quite a lot of them. So it will be great to try some of the other suggestions on here.
My local supermarket sells the sachets but they are are cheaper to buy on line from the easiyo website if you get a box full.
I love the biodynamic plain yogurt. I also make yogurt cheese out of it, just mix in some herbs and a bit of celtic sea salt and poor into a clean chux cloth or teatowel and hang over a bowl to drainfor a day or so (until it is thick and creamy like cream cheese). Great on toast or crackers or make it plain and use it as a base for dips.
I get the flavoured unsweetened sachets for a treat for my son (they can taste a little sour) you are ment to add your own sweetner but my son eats it unsweetened.
To make it firstly half fill inner container with water and then add the sachet and mix well before topping up with water, then put the lid on and give it a good shake. Fill yogurt maker up to the top line of the red baffle with boiling water and then put yogurt container in and screw on the lid. Leave for a minimum of 6-8 hours until set. If you forget about it you can leave it up tp 24 hours without spoiling it.
    Chill before using.

Sorry I repeated a couple of things already mentioned in posts above I thought I had edited it out but somehow it didn't work and it went with my original post.
