Smile Help needed for colic!!

Hello

I have a seven week old baby boy who we are having a very trying time with. We assume it is colic as he fits the description and have run out of other ideas. Our first boy who is now 22 months old was a dream child and thankfully still is as I don't think I could cope otherwise. I have heard about craniosacral massage as an alternative therapy but can't find anyone on the coast who specialises in babies. if anyone can help we would be most grateful and also any other suggestions to help ease the colic and the crying!

If you are breastfeeding, you may want to take a look at this thread with a Lactation Diet.

My first DD seemed very uncomfortable and once I removed dairy from my diet, improved within weeks. She had an intollerance to all milk protiens (other than mine) until well into her 3rd year. This included goat, soy, rice and cow milk.

colic is medically defined as 'crying for unknown reasons'

sometimes, more holding of bub (possibly in a sling?) can help ease the crying. if your baby is tired, being worn may help him get more sleep? offering the breast may help?

my last child was one who needed to be held a lot, so i just did lots of work at the computer. this happened a lot in her first year

our DS had "colic" for at least 6 months (cant remember specifically - with all the sleep deprivation life has been a blur ). he screamed for at least half the day, and most of the night. not much helped, but we/he got some relief from an amby hammock which worked well for day sleeps, keeping him upright in a sling when awake or sleeping, sleeping him on his stomach on us during the night, reducing offenders from my diet, and trying to not have an overstimulating environment. i think it's a bit of a vicious cycle really - the stress of having a constantly inconsolable child is overwhelming & not understood by parents who have not had this experience - and this stress impacts on your bonding with baby - which impacts on their stress - which makes them cry more etc

An old herbal remedy is fennel tea, a couple of tablespoons of dried or fresh fennel to 500ml water. Mum drinking this helps relieve baby's colic if breastfeeding (as well as promoting milk production)... if not breast feeding try giving bubs some cooled fennel tea - apparently great to releiving colic.

We had a inconsolable screaming baby that barely slept for three months, I was so stressed and getting seriously depressed, my partner was depressed, our relationship deteriorated, I had trouble bonding and spent half the time not wanting her and felt I was going through the motions just doing what I had to do, nobody was enjoying anything then add the sleep deprivation. It is a horrible condition and it takes all your confidence away and the impacts are huge. I hope its not as bad as im describing for you but that was my experience. I seriously wanted to take her back and felt guilty about it. Everytime I went to the doctor they would say its a rite of passage, she will grow out of it - this was no help. I tried everything. I even stopped breastfeeding because I couldnt get any help and it would all come back up, in the end after 3 months I went to tresillian saw a pediatrician and a conbination of thickener and an ant acid...and we had a different baby - she started sleeping and kept most of her food down, she started smiling and putting on weight...it turned out to be a case do whatever you have to do to get an answer no matter what it is. I have all the compassion in the world for anyone dealing with this sort of problem as it is still very fresh in my mind. Also try and keep the baby elevated even just a bit even in bed. Goodluck

Smile Re: Help needed for colic!!

I know Chiropractic gets really good results for colic. Most of the time the trauma from birth causes misalignments of the spine and causes nerve interference. For healthy nerve flow the chiropractor will adjust the spine to proper position. It also helps for reflux, sleeping problems and general health and well being for your baby. Our daughter has had chiropractic since birth and it has been great she's been a really healthy happy baby.
