Default Meditation

Hi,

I have been having some serious stress/anxiety/depression issues for the past few weeks and my Mum suggested I should try meditation.

Part of my problem is my mind is constantly racing and I find it very hard to relax. I have been trying to meditate the past few days but without much success.

Can anyone recommend a good guided meditation cd? Ideally how long should one meditate for each day? Do you find it is more beneficial in the morning or at night? Anything else you can tell me?

Thanks

Have you tried exercise as well. If you go for a walk or do some yoga or something and then lay down and consciously allow each part of your body to relax in turn. I.e. tighten the muscles in your foot and then allow them to go floppy and then your calf, then your knee then your other leg etc through your whole body. Sorry I can't recommend any cds.
I really find the exercise helps with the depression. But I don't always do what I know is good for me.
What sort of meditation are you interested in?

Thanks Kime, I am a gym junkie so the exercise is obviously not helping me in that respect.

Not sure of the different types of meditation. Just something that can help me calm down and try to think rationally.

I posted this on another thread too, but how about subscribing to some free meditation podcasts on itunes? I get lots of them, and they are all great. You can download past meditations too, so you don't have to wait for the next one to come out to have one to listen to. As for cds, anything by Toni Carmine Salerno is good. Good luck, it really does help to quiet your mind. I swear by listening to a meditation to get me off to sleep and to just clear out all that mind noise.

Oh, and to answer your other questions - I dont think there is a time of day that is best, just anytime you feel you need to quiet yourself I guess. Meditation podcasts range from about 10 minutes to 30 minutes.

I've always battled with meditation too...it's exactly what i need though (busy mind). I found short guided ones on www.meditation.org.au. I think I needed to follow the "any is better than none" rule.

Just grab 5 minutes meditation time when you can, hang the rules (candles crystals) Just shut your eyes, relax with some deep breaths and take yourself to your happy place for a while....for me it's walking along the beach, warm sun beating down, gentle breeze, sound of the waves gently lapping, birds (yawwn try not to fall asleep).
