Default What's the spiritual meaning of an owl?

I had a dream whic I know had a important messag although I can't figure it out.
I was walking with my DH on a strip with lots of retaurants and entertainment. It was night time and we were dressed up. Along the way, we would from time to time encounter a long line of clear water, sort o like a wall type of water fountain , that would flush up.for a little bit and then would die down. We were happy and amazed verytime we would see this happen as if it were some kind of entertainment. Then as I was walking back, I saw an Owl standing on a wall. The Owl was a significant element in the dream b/c I remember saying to my self, while still in the dream: "when I wake up I must find out what this owl means". I woke up in the morning, not thinking about it at all, and when I changed the channel to my DS's favorite channel, right at that very moment they were teaching little kids about the owl. It immediately reminded me what I had dreamed and reassured me that this is something I probably need to look at.
Does anyone know how to interpret dreams???
Sorry about such long post...

Without any other emotional elements to the dream, my guess is that a spiritual teacher is going to make themselves more known to you. Even some-one you know who will show you a different way of looking at things. Water is often a symbol of emotions, and being able to watch the ebb and flow of your emotions with an inner calm/joy sounds ideal.

Do you remember any other feelings you had from the owl, scared of, wary of, like you knew them, or just like you could trust it?

Sorry if what I'm saying soundslike a heap of #@%+. Just the first thing that came to mind.

The owl is a symbol of wisdom - they're the silent observers which make them excellent predators. Perhaps it's a message to quieten down a bit, observe what's going on around you and you'll be able to get/achieve what you really want.

The owl is the symbol of the Greek Goddess Athena, (wisdom in Greek being sofia hence my avatar ) I would see it as a positive...sort of like Harry Potter's hedwig

In my culture the owl is a messenger of the passed, he has a relation with crow and magpie. A brother of mine works with owl totemically.

The owl is a teacher and guide, when you are lost in darkness owl is who will bring you back. Owl sees many things, he can help you to see past falseness. He will also let you know a right place and a right time.

I guess I would say not so much what owl represents, but what is your relationship to owl? That is coming from an indigenous perspective tho.

xx

Wow, so far althought all your replies are somewhat different, they all make sense and I've been able to pick up things from all of them.
When I saw the owl I was actually very calm but I just new that it was the highlight of the dream and that I must figure out what it means. I know that the water flushing up was also significant. It was as if a scenario was presented to me and then the Owl appeared to reassured me of something b/c that was the end of the dream. I'm usually not one to trust dreams. I always said that when images are presented to me when I'm awake or in my 'alpha' stage, right before I fall asleep, then I trust it. But this dream, I'm 100% sure it was a powerful revelation. I have been asking my spirit guys lately to guide me give me aswers about certain things in my life and I believe they are trying to reach out to me.
I'm going to sit down and meditate later and ask for more clear aswers.
Please feel free to keep throwing in ideas on this. You ladies are very helpful!

Kassy, I just realised from your ticker that you are expecting bubba soon. The water flushing up and the fact that both you and DH were watching it, could it be like the contractions of a labour. I used to always visualise labour contractions coming like waves in the ocean. Maybe the owl is a symbol of how you are going to watch your labour with detached calm/joy or some-one/guide to help you through that. With this in mind did you feel you baby fitted into the dream somewhere?

Kime, that makes a lot of sense too. The baby was nowhere in the dream, but on my birth plan I stated that I must have 1 lit candle in the room and b/c the birth center has certain restrictions on that b/c of fire codes and blah, blah, blah, I had to do some convincing. Tey realized how important this is for me and so they're making an exeption. The candle is sort of a prsonal ritual I have when I need guidance. It could be that the Owl is one of my guides letting me know that I'll be OK and that he/she will be watching over me??? I hope

Kassy, If i had your dream I would feel greatly reassured that I would cope well with the labour no matter what happens. It sounds like you will be guided candle or not. With DD1 I felt the room was full of spirit guides at the moment of her birth, amazing hey?
