Default Tattoos

I didn't know where else to post this.

I was wondering if anyone has every felt passionateliy in love with someone enough to tattoo their name on their body and where? and what you led you to this?

I'm also curious about other tattoos, where they are, what are the images? and why?

Not a name, no. However I do have one of a female geisha looking samuri (if you can imagine). I felt it described what I needed to be - both feminine & strong - and I find the oriental theme is a lot more elegant than a busty blonde nordic warrior!

It's on my left shoulder blade where it can be covered if needed or exposed if I want.

A friend dsigned her own butterfly in leaves and the leaves spell her daughter's name. It's gorgeous!

Tattoos are a very personal part you can add to yourself, aren't they?! I like that you ask the location. As in: is it for show or private?

I plan to get both my kids names done after this bubba is born. My DH wants me to get his name as well. I would say, have caution with getting a partners name. Not unless your absolutely sure.

I have a few tattoos, and have both my girls names tattooed as well.
I have Jerry from Tom and Jerry on my lower back, as people used to tell me I was a cheeky mouse! I always loved Jerry, so he was my first Tattoo. I then got Madison-Belle's name around my wrist like a flower bracelet, and a butterfly on my foot in rememberance of our little butterfly. When Emily was born, I then got some flowers and vines around the butterfly on my foot leading up my leg, and had Emily tattooed around my ankle... I will take some pics if you want.

DH has my name tattooed on his leg and has had for over 10 years. It was his second tattoo, and we werent even married yet!

...dh & I have been quite abstract about tattoos, we love the idea but in realty have always said - nah too permanent but a few things have occured over the last few years thats had us thinking otherwise.

mumma+me - its true, they are so personal. I like the butterfy idea, very subtle and your female geisha - I like the sounds of her particularly the symbology

~*Nile*~ - having my partner's name, it is a biggy...still I'm loving the notion of the permanency, quite ironic.

Angelsmum - I like the flower bracelet idea, I have been swaying in this direction or higher up my arm...how special and committed was your dh - beautiful ...I'd love to see piccies

moo - I love the celtic designs...am pondering them too

So some other questions I will assume it hurts - what kind of hurt? how long does it take to heal?

I would offer that the pain would vary from person to person and where it is. Your expectations would alter it too (hmmm, sounds like birth, huh?!)

I personally was in favour of not being able to watch and I liken it to having your eyebrows plucked (plucked, not waxed) for an hour or so.

I remember asking someone later why he kept spraying something and wiping me How naive am I??!!

Investigate the artist. Mine was in a country town that had two places, my guy was HIGHLY recommended and I had a fab experience with him too. The others were dodgy and rude.

Hope that helps

Creativemum, we are SO on the same wavelength at the moment that it's scary I asked DH last night if he would get a tat with me at some stage, but he's too scared of the pain. I will be watching this thread closely though. *sigh* I'm so glad I met you.

Pain? Well mine was like having a knife stuck into me a couple of inches and dragged through the skin. Seemed to go on forever. Biggest thing stopping me having another LOL

I would go with similar tattoo/place on body idea rather than a name (any name).

thanks pj'smum, I'm glad to have met you too
its funny how for years I wouldn't do things because of social and parental conditioning and then one day I realised...that I'm an adult now and the parent too and I can choose what I want....it took me 14 years to realise this with abit of a (big) nudge from dh
