Since I am modding here and live in the ME, I thought I should start a thread just in case any crunchy Mammas from this part of the world pop by.

My Mum and SIL are over there at the moment. Both are living there, although SIL is coming back to Oz permanently at xmas. Mum always comments on how she sees so many little kids playing at the beach all the time with their Nannies.

I will be there soon- hope this is still an active thread...I really want to find others with similar interests. :-) DH is heading over in August, I am following in October- hopefully pregnant and done with my first trimester. Found this thread by searching on homebirth in Dubai...doesn't look good so far. Hope you can give me some insight on the situation. I used to be a doula, so hoping to have one of those at the very least. Thanks! denay

Wow how exciting Knttynay, a homebirth in Dubai. Your child will have quite a tale to tell of his coming into the world. Hope we get to hear all about it!!

I have a fly in/fly out cousin works in Yemen..that is the nearest connection I have to the ME. Oh that's right my US Policeman BIL is in Afgahnistan right now earning lots of tax free US$ training the locals. Our family think he was nuts but the bucks are a pretty big draw.

Oh gosh, Afghanistan is more dangerous than Iraq at the moment! Hope your BIL stays safe and comes home soon.

Knittynay where are you moving to? There are one or two doulas in Dubai & Abu Dhabi. Homebirth is illegal I'm sorry to say. Birth here is extremely medicalised, ask away with any q's, I'm happy to help. Great you're moving over, how do you feel about it?

Welcome to NP. I am so glad your seach has lead you to our forum. All the very best for your big move. I arrived in Dubai in early October last year and am back in Australia to escape the summer heat.

My understanding is that homebirth is illegal in the UAE. There are several doulas working in Dubai and at least one in Abu Dhabi. I can put you in contact with one if you would like.

As for breastfeeding support, there is an excellent Lactation Consultant and a mother to mother support group which has meetings on two different sides of the city and an active Yahoo group. I will PM you with some further information.

Again, I am so glad you found us! I was in contact with some likeminded women in Dubai before our move and it made the transition so much easier.

Yeah- not the safest place to be, although I am more worried about the dodgy airline DH flies there on than anything happening to him on the ground.
