suburbs on Georges River, Sydney?
Since I'm househunting by proxy, I'm having trouble finding something out. We're looking round Croydon, Ashbury type areas but I'm intrigued by the Georges River. I live on a creek now and I'd like to replace it But what suburbs line it? What are they like? You'd never know I was from Sydney LOL. But that pocket is way out of my experience *blush*

Re: suburbs on Georges River, Sydney?
Hey Janet, I'm from Lugarno orginally, which is on Georges River. Really beautiful area. Also Oatley, Como, Padstow, Sylvania and Taren Point are lovely suburbs along the river. Generally called 'the Sutherland Shire.' Mostly, the suburbs are pretty, leafy, and friendly. I enjoyed my time there. And another plus, you wouldn't be far from the beach.

They are beautiful areas, but get threatened by fire *every* summer.

Hey Janet,
I'm a Property Manager in Annandale if I can be of any help in the Inner West area. Although this is my last week before I'm off to put my feet up in preparation for baby's arrival.

Re: suburbs on Georges River, Sydney?
Dont wont Janet I lived in Sydney for 30 years and that area I have no idea about. If I was to move to Sydney again I think I would head back to my grass roots, somewhere around Frenchs Forest, Terrey Hills, Ingleside beautiful bushy suburbs. I think there are also quite a few NP Mumas up around the Northern Beaches way. Good luck with your search for somewhere to live back up in Sydney.

Thanks everyone : ) The furthest west I"ve lived is Marrickville so it's an unknown beyond that... I'm pushing DP to look in Ashfield because it's cheaper than Croydon... I'll let you all know!

I enjoyed living around the Ashfield area but also the Sutherland area. The sutherland shire is closer to the beaches and water. Ashfield and the inner west I felt had a nicer "live and let live' feel about it.

There's lots of gorgeous federation houses and parks in Ashfield and Haberfield way - you just have to get away from Parramatta Rd and it is a totally differnt feel and so close to everything (express train to the city)

Yep lived in Carlton and worked in Hurstville for a while. Trev wants inner west because he's working in Croydon. I do love the inner west!

Re: suburbs on Georges River, Sydney?
Come to the Shire Janet
Basically, what vespertine said. Lugarno is gorgeous and has a real community vibe - they have a big blackboard on the main drag and they write birthday messages and birth announcements etc on it. Oatley has some beautiful federation houses, Como is leafy but on the water too. Yes there's fire threats but we had that where we were in Maroubra too Also there's a Montessori school in Gymea, as well as some really nice public schools if you will be schooling out of the home.
It's a bit of travel for Trev, but the prices are also a bit better than the inner west. Good luck - lmk if there's anything I can do
