Default Insurance company

If I'm allowed to ask, can anyone give me the name of an insurance company they would reccomend. I'm starting to look at getting it in place for the new house or at least getting quotes. It would be easier to go with RAC as that is where our car insurance is but I think I might get a better deal elsewhere.

Since we're first home buyers we've never had house insurance before so I don't know where to start.

I think there's good and bad in them all

I'd ring around, find out what they provide for how much and go from there.

We change insurance companies regularly - every time our policy comes in I do the ring around (well a lot do online quotes now too) and move over to a more reasonable one - mostly saving one to two hundred dollars. Massive differences over very similar policies. And not one company consistently more reasonable than another - it changes most years.

we get a heavily discounted rate through having our mortgage with NAB and insuring with Allianz.

I have always found Suncorp to be very prompt with their payments of claims for contents insurance. We have our house insurance with C'wealth and they are a bit tougher with their claims.

We changed from CommInsure to Budget Direct (who my car insurance is through) 5 months ago. Not sure how they are with claims, as we've never made one, but the price difference was enough to make me switch and they offered all the same coverage. Only difference was it cost more to pay in installments with BD, so we payed the 12 months up front.

Thankyou, I'll check them out. I've a feeling I may need to switch a few times to find the one I'm happy with. I just need to get it set up before the house is finished. I need to read a few more websites to get an idea of what I'm actually looking for and what the variables are, and what are the important parts for us to have.
