Default Pool chemicals / "enviroswim"?

Our pool keeps going green after the rain and to get it clear we have to put lots of toxic chemicals in.

The local pool shop is selling this thing called "enviroswim" which apparently keeps the pool clear by releasing silver and copper ions into the water. This, they say, is healthier to swim in, and you don't need to put heaps of chemicals in your pool (only a few).

So - does anyone use one of these enviroswim things? Is it any good? Or do you know of any similar system that you can use to avoid putting heaps of chemicals (some of them toxic) into your pool? Does anyone know are there any ill effects (e.g. health effects) relating to releasing silver and copper ions into pool water?

TIA

I've never heard of enviroswim (we don't have a pool, though), but DH does take Colloidal Silver for his sinus problems and thinks it's great. Could there be health benefits to swimming in the silver??

Hey, so does ours. I'd forgotten about that!
That reminds me, I need to get some new filters for it. We replace it every Christmas.

Sounds good nik, my new house has a chlorine pool and I was thinking of changing to salt but enviroswim sounds better.

Yes the silver would help to keep the water sanitary. Silver is anti microbial and anti bacterial, and is used in burns dressings. I'm just glad you didn't have to learn that the same way I did!!

Sorry to hijack, my 5yo son burned one side of his face and part of his chest a couple of months ago. Thankfully all first degree, no scarring on the face (although it kind of "blushes/flushes" at times), and very minor scarring on the chest, where the burns were most severe.

Sounds awful Moo.

So this silver, it's instead of chlorine, or do you still need to use chlorine as well (like you do in a saltwater pool).
