Birthday Parties and food
Just wondering what you all think. My children are on a wheat, dairy and egg free diet, so therefore the birthday cake needs to be one that they can eat. My sister reakons all the other kids will complain and wont like it so therefore I should get two cakes, one for my kids, and one for all the others.
I dont think this is fair as we have to bring our own food to other peoples places and there is nothing wrong with the cake I will be supplying. I think they should deal with what they are given in regards to the cake, if I was offering other food I would supply a mix so everyone would be happy.
What are your opinions?

Re: Birthday Parties and food
Nope I think it should be the one cake. If they don't like it, stiff bickies. But then how many times have you seen kids barely touch the cake except the icing at parties anyway? You could make a feature, like a chocolate crackle bear. Put the mix into a tin for the head, make smaller ones for the ears and nose and use candy and icing to decorate. I think that is dairy, egg and wheat free. What kind of cake are you planning?

I agree!
The idea of making two cakes is stupid. That just seems SO insensitive.
If the other kids don't like it, tough. Its not made for them, its made for the birthday child!!

Re: Birthday Parties and food
well thats what I thought, I was pretty unhappy with that suggestion. She actually made it twice now. Like my two are spoiling it for the others.
My eldest (pre-diet) would turn her nose up at cakes as she doesnt like all the cream and icing rubbish all over the store bought ones, but then she ws happy to miss out, it was her choice and I didnt expect the parents to supply us iwth a cream free alternative.
Im making a chocolate cake. Its actually really yummy with really good icing. Its just her attitude really, she doesnt know what it tastes like so I gave her a piece to try today.

Re: Birthday Parties and food
Good idea. I would be really mad if somebody suggested that to me.
Its like birthday parties have turned into a giant competition!

Re: Birthday Parties and food
I've been to heaps of kids birthday parties where the cakes have been wheat/gluten/dairy/combo of all these or others - and none of the kids have even noticed. The cake is also about sharing birthday wishes, and I think two cakes goes away from this (unless it is something like loads of people so two cakes to choose from, cos one cake not enough). Would also be pretty cool for your children to be able to be part of the eating what everyone else is eating rather than having to have their own separate cake.
One cake!

Far out! Comments like this from your sister are so ignorant. Thanks for the support, I say!
It's been said - GF, dairy free, egg free cakes are just fine. Narrow-mindedness of some people!

Re: Birthday Parties and food
Gosh thanks. Now how to explain it to her so she understands. SHe thinks Im just being bratty and annoying. She totally doesnt get it. She did the whole "oookkkaayay, but your gunna have heaps of kids complaining!" while rolling her eyes.

Why bother justifying it to her?
If she says silly things like that me thinks her opinions are irrelevant as far as this goes.
Ignore her about it. Its totally your choice and it isn't fair for your kids to have to be 'different' on their birthday!
People with that sort of attitude bug me. A lot.

Re: Birthday Parties and food
I think most kids out there eat way too much wheat, dairy and eggs anyway so it will do everyone some good. I think she is being so insensitive to her nieces. Most parties they go to they are signalled out because they can't eat the cake so you would think that she would be happy that at least at their own parties they shouldn't feel different!! Some of the best cakes I have eaten have been wheat, dairy and egg free.
