Nappy Bag?
Merediths thread on accessories got me thinking back to when I was looking for nappy bags with both girls. I hated the frilly baby type ones and although they have come a long way since then in style I still couldn't find one to suit me. May have been a lot to do with not being comfortable with hand bags before then. I used to just carry a wallet in my pocket like a bloke. And then there was the price for these upmarket baby bags.. $100 plus.
So I always made my own. This time round I bought black and maroon corduroy and made simple deep over the shoulder bags with matching baroque style lining for colour. When they need a clean out I can just dump it all out sort it and toss in the washing machine. People are always commenting on them, so they must have some style! Oh and the corduroy is because it's comfortable and it sticks to the shoulder- no slipping off.
What did you use? What is your nappy bag journey? Do you love getting back to a regular bag when your baby is old enough?

Re: Nappy Bag?
I use random calico bags from around the place. At present I am rotating between my JB bag, a Kuranda bag, a bag made in Columbia and bookshop bag... they are so easy to wash.

Re: Nappy Bag?
Never used nappy bags! I don't understand why a breastfeeding mother needs one so huge tbh. So I always just made sure my own handbag was generous enough to hold my nappy gear. Would sometimes rather make a trip back to the car, if possible, in order to change baby there and leave all the smelly stuff behind. Otherwise, a separate drawstring bag was carried around for the wet nappies. If I knew I'd be out all day and nappy changes would be difficult, I resorted to disposables.

Re: Nappy Bag?
First baby: small backpack. DH used it more than me as I worked full time and he was primary carer.
Second baby: big leather/suede tote with lots of pockets. It wasn't a nappy bag, but had enough pockets to carry stuff for two in nappies plus my wallet, phone & keys.
Third baby: I've now got two in nappies, and a pre-schooler. So I have a popular brand overnight-sized nappy bag in the boot of the car with nappies, spare clothes etc. And I just carry my own stuff in a small WAHM shoulder bag. Living in a place where public transport is totally inadequate, I have to drive everywhere anyway. So I guess you could say my car is my nappy bag!

Re: Nappy Bag?
I bought a gorgeous bag with my second baby, when we were on holidays in Kuranda. It was fair trade made with natural fibres and represented the colours of the Ulysses Butterfly. Has anyone else been to this shop in the Kuranda Markets. All the products (dresses, bags, sarongs etc.) are inspired by local butterflies. They are just divine!

Re: Nappy Bag?
When I had my first, I had one of those gigantic baby bags, that would slip off your shoulder, and break your back at the same time. That didnt last long!
I was given a Yojiki baby swagbag type of nappy bag. I seriously just found it to be the best bag! It has everything in it that you could possible need, like an actual mattress - which I have used on picnics, visiting friends places as a portable playmat, and I even used it at the airport when we were waiting for a connecting flight. I just rolled it out and my 3mth old (at the time) had a sleep on it (the beauty of it is that I also rolled a blanket into the swag - there was enough room)! You also get a change mat, nappy bag and a cooler bag(which I must admit I didnt use for the first 6mths as I breastfed) but now I use it for their lunches, snacks etc. The nappy bag turns into a shoulder bag. I now have 2 children, a 3yr old and a 1 1/2 yr old and the bag is still going strong - at one point when they were both in nappies - there was still enough room for everything. I am expecting my 3rd and am so used to the swagbag, that I will probably stick to it. I forgot to mention you can just throw all the separates into the wash! Great!!
Anyway - that was and is my nappy bag experience. Might give you some ideas if you are looking for something different.

Re: Nappy Bag?
I love the sound of your cordoroy bag - very cool!
I received a pretty nifty over the shoulder, uber hip, back pack style nappy bag when LO was born. That lives in our car now. After the newborn phase I just stuffed a nappy and wipes in my hand bag and figured anything major could wait until we reached the car. But we did have some pretty awesome nappy blowouts when DS was little and having that nappy bag was very handy - it has 3 clear plastic pockets and a change table built in.

Re: Nappy Bag?
Like Jodie, I pretty much just use a large handbag. If its just quick trips, I just use the pocket on my sling. Its big enough to carry a spare nappy or 2 and wipes plus my keys, phone, wallet and stuff.
I did have a huge nappy bag with the first, but that was more to do with the fact that I used AIM from early on and she was in care early on.

I have a Great Nappy bag that unfolds to a changing mat, with everything in easy reach, would be lost without it

Re: Nappy Bag?
Nappy bags, nappy bags. I have used all kinds and even used plastic bags! Lol
I have found the best thing to use is one that is like a backpack. This allows me to put the bag on my back and have spare hand to do things with the kids, like hold them or hold their hands.
