Default Inheritance.

I was taking some photos today of DD2 and I was thinking how amazing it is how both girls have both got all the good features from both their father and myself. We're both tall so I'm sure they will be too, I have good bone structure, they both got that, DH has nice neat ears and nose while I got m father's prince charles english ones- thank goodness both got ones like DH. DH hasn't got a great chin, both girls got mine. We both have thick hair, and both got my strawberry blonde.

So as they grow I'm hoping neither get my size 12 hoofs or my tendency to the horizontal spread

Personality wise, I'm not sure what is going to happen. Dh is pretty mild mannered now but by all accounts was a rascal as a child. I was an easy child but I have a temper and am very stubborn. Both girls are showing some of that already.....

So although neither Dh or I are oil paintings I am so proud of how amazing both my girls are... How genetics can glue together the parts from two different people and come up with something wonderful.

What did your kids inherit from you?
Em

My boys both got a twirl in the back of their hair, just like my Dad - I love that.

DS1 is so similar to DH in his facial features - but DS2 is more like my side of the family. Somehow that makes it ever so cool when DS2 pulls exact face expressions of DH!

And I have a funny second to baby toe - on both feet, it is a fat, curly under toe. DH always used to laugh at that - but guess what both my boys have!

DD has my sense of humour (very quick wit), a love of teasing, a creative/artistic side.....from both of us but it is evident in ways that are more similar to mine atm. She is emotive, intense, dramatic (me). She probably looks more like DH in many ways but there are times when she looks so much like me - it's an expression thing, not facial features. She has got my long legs.

same here, all three of mine you can pick as a sibling of the other and as part of our family, there's slight differentiations but they all have parts of each other which is pretty cool
except when it comes to sorting the photos! (yes there have been times when I've had to check the date stamp)

I never saw any self-resemblance in my kids until recently. They all looked like their dad from the moment they were born. As their faces are maturing, I can see them starting to resemble me more. And one of my boys is becoming a blond clone of my brunette brother - which is kinda nice, 'cos he doesn't yet have any kids of his own.

Temperament-wise, our oldest boy is quite pragmatic and bright like his dad but the girls are very expressive and artsy, much like me. Our second son is hard to place. He's the one that looks like my brother, plus he's left-handed like dh's brother, and he has a mischievous streak that I recognise from childhood memories of my brother. So it's not all direct lineage from me and dh. Kai is the big mystery of our family inheritance.

Me and my siblings all look different, me being blonde and both my parents being dark haired (my great grandmother on mums side was from Chile), my brothers are like "matchsticks with the wood shaved off", and my sister's hair is nearly black. I think I'm a throw back from the dad's irish side.

I have a friend who is a short pale cuddly blonde and she married a tall mauritian so her 4 kids are dark skinned, dark curly haired beauties, she doesn't look like their mum at all! I think they're all going to be taller than her too. Once you get to know them though you can see very definite personality traits they got from her....

It's funny isn't it how some families all look uncannily similar but some are all different. Now I've reached over 30 people who don't know me are now starting to pick me as "Beryl's" daughter, so I must look more like her than I thought.

For the first year, I wondered if DD was actually mine, or just a clone of DH implanted into me when I wasn't looking!

However, by the age of 2, she was just like me at the same age. Now at 3, I can see both equally.

My nose, eye colour, expressions, hands, build, big/flat feet.....DH's chin, face shape, shape feet, lips, eye shape, tricky tongue. We're both muscular, so she got that from both of us, although I think she'll be a bit shorter like her dad. We're also all very stubborn & she's picked up a lot of OCD habits, mainly from DH.
