Tried Homeschooling now going to school!
As I posted a few months ago, we have been torn about homeschooling our almost 6 year old or sending him to school, then DH finally made the decision, and I committed to homeschooling for a year to see how it goes.
Anyway i've now been unofficially homeschooling DS for a little while but have decided as much as I enjoy teaching him things, and spending time with him, after seeing how much fun he had at kinder with the other kids, I felt I was still depriving him of peers and couldn't get past that.
Fast forward to today, DS2 started 3 year old kinder, and DS1 came along as I didn't have anyone to mind him, anyway one of the little boys who was in his kinder group last year was there with his younger sibling too, and he was soooooooooooo excited to see him, and I had this awful wave of panic about how I'm denying him little friends in this way.
So I went home and prayed, and panicked some more, did some unofficial schooling and noticed that while DS enjoys it, I don't see the same spark in his eye that I do when he's around other children, so I rang DH at work and nearly cried explaining all my thoughts that he said it's ok, lets try school as he has noticed also.
So moral of the story, I realised that I can homeschool, but I can't give him 10 or 20 other little people to enjoy the schooling experience with so we are meeting with a school on Monday to see if it is the school for us.,
Just needed to share.Cheers...

Hi Randa,
Sounds like you are being responsive and respectful of his needs.

Re: Tried Homeschooling now going to school!
hey hey did you catch the link in the Parenting Confessions thread i just posted today?
why we are going to try school Very similar.
Theres no one right way to educate our kids, its what works for your little people that is the priority. I can just imagine his little eyes
The social aspect of home schooled children is very important & an active & conscious effort has to be made by the parents. We are about to embark on connecting with the local home school network & follow up on some home school co-ops. Also sport registration is about to happen again for soccer season & training at the PCYC twice weekly also...well thats the plan
We've had some serious hiccups with our home schooling summer school (as it was dubbed), showed some quite big flaws in our plans & our approach...& our communications *blushes* [i only yelled at him once he was going back to school *blushes more*] Its a journey *blushes*
We're in the same boat as everyone, if it doesnt work we will have to look into something else. I think youve done amazingly & as much as we know you want to home school, you have met & prioritised your childs needs. He is one blessed kiddo
...the world really is beautiful

Hellllo

Every child is different and I'm sure you will continue to do what is best for your children. Mother does usually know best
Which ever road you take there are tough decisions along the way.
My home educated DD is VERY sociable as well, so I make a huge (and exhausting on my part!) effort to involve her in a wide range of activities. Art group, drama group, music group, sports, csiro and other group workshops. It is an effort and commitment but it can be done.
Home schooling is by no means the easy path, and if you are not 100% convinced and committed it's probably best not to take it.
Hope all goes well for you
