Smile Chronic hayfever any natural ways to treat

Hi,
My gorgeous 10 year old goes to cairns every school holidays to see her Dad and without fail every time she ends up with really bad hayfever (her dad lives next to sugar cane and when it is flowering it is even worse). Anyway her Father gives her antihistimines every day and I am not too keen on this.

Anyone got any advice on what they may do???

thanks

Hey there,

I get hayfever often too, its a real nuisance! I have found that a simple saline rinse works well at times.... it just rinses out any pollen still in the nose. You can either use a Neti pot or you can use a nasal spray bottle that you get at the chemists, just with warm salty water.

Apart from that I haven't found anything, but would love to hear any other ideas.

We've been told that consuming local raw honey can significantly reduce reactions to pollen allergens. So perhaps have her Dad send down some Cairns raw honey for her to eat on a daily basis until she goes and see if that affects the severity of her symptoms. It has to be local and it has to be raw.

If it does work, she could bring back some more with her in preparation for next time.

You can get a homeopathic spray from a naturopath called "hayplex" from Brauer. My husband has horrid hayfever and it works pretty well for him. Good luck!

I don't get it either and nor does anyone in the family... but have also read that raw honey can help... but that as well as being local, you need to make sure it is not spun in a centrifuge or filtered (so that the pollen stays in the honey).

If her Dad's not keen maybe you could track down a local beekeeper in Cairns who would help?
