Default Anyone have Lo's sensitive to bandaids and sticking tape?

Seems DS is quite sensitive to bandaids and micropore tape so far, makes dressings quite expensive (so far opsite and cutilin are ok).

I wonder if anyone who has a LO with similar sensitivities can shed some light as to why maybe?

Hiya,

I have allergies to nearly everything that gets put on my skin, latex, bandaids, stickytape, micropore, leukotape and fixomull.

If I have an IV it is usually held with a tight bandage over my hand.

I don't know why I have skin allergies but I also have many food and environmental allergies (I hope not the case for your lo)

If I need a bandaid type thing I use Coban (there's other names and brands but I can't think of any right now).

It is a self adhesive bandage (It sticks to itself but not to you) but you can use a strip like a bandaid (so a roll lasts a long time), it is not the most comfortable thing but if you are bleeding and need it it's ok, just gauze held in place with it works well. It is also reusable if it doesn't get dirty, it will re-stick to itself time and time again.

Hope that helps,
Sarah

we are quite sensitive to adhesive dressings (elastoplast is the worst) in our family so tend to use a bit of gauze with micropore or opsite or plain stretchy bandage on top

it's all part of the atopic picture - eczema, food allergies and intolerances, anaphylaxis, asthma, hay fever etc

Yep, my DD1 is sensitive, comes up with a nasty red rasied itchy rash. Awful. Shes pretty allergic kid so not surprised. Ive found we are ok with the fabric bandaids, but not the more plasticy ones or the operation site dressings.

I'm the same, although slightly less reactionary in recent years. I also have (or had) eczema, asthma, hay fever, food intolerances, etc, as do most of my family, so it's just one more thing.

Hi
DD1 and I are reactive to some 'bandaid's but not others. Elastoplast is terrible. But we find fixomull OK with no reaction. xx

I can't have any of those with adhesives against my skin, or I welt up badly. I don't have any other intollerances/allergies though...

Oliver had an allergic reaction to micropore tape during his surgery and we were told to mention it if he has surgery in future. He also has eczema. Haven't had to use a bandaid yet so not sure about it. We assumed it was genetic as I get welts from certain brands of bandaid and strapping tape and avoid using anything with adhesive now.

Obelia gets a red prickly rash that becomes wet and very inflamed if the tape is left on, from opsite, micropore, elastoplast. Our wound care nurse told me she has seen people with 1cm blisters from tegaderm dressing!

fixomull is fine for Obi, as is duoderm or comfeel. are you familiar with Duoderm? Its a like a thick second skin that is very adhesive and can stay on for weeks if it doesn't get wet, and at least a week even with baths, comfeel the same but thinner. As she has a wound that has to be re-dressed each day, we use Duoderm to make a frame around the outside of her wound so that we can remove and reapply the tape daily without ripping her skin or giving her a rash. quite handy.

(i don't know if its just a weird fetish, but I'm a bit obsessed with dressings.. so many nifty tapes and fabrics and wipes!)
