Unhappy Burns.....

Ok...so long story short. My wee man has managed to get a hold of my straight iron for my hair. All of 2 seconds has left two fingers with badly blistered pads and 2 fingers with small blisters. Apart from feeling like I could win worst mother of the year award.. I'm just so worried about it!

We took him to the hospital and they gave him nurofen, and fentanyl (which I've just started reading up on and become VERY paranoid about )

We have to go back everyday for the next 7 days for the dressing to be changed but seeing as how hubby does a better job at the dressing than the nurse did....

Just wondering what natural things I can put on his fingers. We have heaps of aloe, but is there anything else natural that may be better? Or should I just go with anything they prescribe?

I swear my son is using up all his future brother's and sister's trips to the hospital. This is his 3rd!

Ouch, I can feel the pain, I know how hot those irons can get. Take heart, stuff happens, not as bad as my cousin who's 3 yr old got hold of a bamix, plugged it in and chopped the end off one of his fingers....

Aloe vera would do wonders for it I would have thought. There must be some wonderful herbal burn/skin repair creams you could get too when it's starts healing a bit.

And lots of hugs and extra attention..

Em

I swear he is mad at me as he has only really wanted Daddy and and wouldn't even comfort feed at the hospital. He finally laid in his ring sling with me at the hospital once he was high...and yes..I'm sure he was high...glassy eyed everything.. I'm second guessing myself now because I was just so panicked I didn't even think about what they were giving him and just found out fentanyl is used in epidurals... But I think maybe he really did need it as he was just in a frenzied cry and in a lot of pain. I hate feeling like a useless mum....lol. Thankfully he is sleeping, an even more thankful that he co sleeps so I can monitor his breathing.

:( Oh no, I'm so sorry. Glad that he'll be OK though.
Can you ask a naturopath before putting other things on the burns? Some herbal remedies can interact in unexpected ways with prescription creams, so it would be worthwhile checking on possible interactions before putting other stuff on it.
Although I expect aloe vera would be safe to use.

Cheers for the natropath suggestion. I am not even sure of what cream they put on..only that it was in a black tube and REALLY seemed to help him. I normally hate the Caboolture hospital but the team we got this time were so fantastic with Brae.

Did you get a letter to pass on to your GP? The name of the cream may be written on that letter.
I can only imagine that you probably need something to help with your own stress! Warm bubblebath and an early night with extra cuddles maybe? Hope he's feeling much better after a good night's sleep.

Calendula is the only other thing I'd consider for a burn. Rosehip oil &/or carrot oil will be useful once the blisters heal a bit.
