Anyone online??
Dh has been throwing up and has muscle pain, we thought a tummy bug, but nobody else here has had it and can't figure out where he might have got it from.
He had a large mushroom in the fridge that he marinated and cooked up but had only so far eaten a small amount of it. Can mushroom cause food poisoning if it's stale? I think it might be a bit old but he insisted it would be fine. He's not normally sensitive to mushrooms.
I'm not sure how to treat him, I've never had F poisoning before. When should I get worried?
Still keeping kids away from him in case it's a bug, last thing I need is vomiting kids, and DD2 is just getting over tonsilitus and a mild cold already. And DD1 would hate to miss school!

Re: Anyone online??
Charcoal tablets are handy to have on standby for food poisoning. Raspberry jam is antibacterial, so a spoonful of that every hour or so until the vomitting stops. Is the muscle pain all over, or just in certain areas? I've heard of a few people with muscle pain & vomitting from a bug going around.

Re: Anyone online??
Is it a bought mushroom or did he pick it himself? If it's one that he picked, check that it is actually an edible mushroom.
Otherwise, if it's food poisoning, keeping him hydrated is probably the most important thing. Frequent small sips of water are easier than drinking a glass at a time.

Re: Anyone online??
hope he's feeling better, if it's an edible mushroom I don't think it would've been the culprit, you should see the age of some of the mushrooms I cook up lol.
Hope all is well this morning!

Re: Anyone online??
Our house has been hit hard with a gastro bug. 3 out of 5 of us have got it. It started with DS2. He threw up for about 6 hours then had diarrhea for about another 6 then was completely fine. I then didn't get it until about 2 days later so for those 2 days I thought it was food poisioning. DD then got it about 24 hours after me which didn't surprise me because she seemed want to be constantly attached to my breasts whilst I was trying to run to the toilet. It has been absolutely horrible.
I had not heard about rasberry jam being antibacterial. Is it only rasberry and is it all jams? Please if anyone knows tell me more.
Cheers,

Only raspberry - in fact anything raspberry (although the more concentrated, the better).
I think there's a thread here somewhere. I remember posting a whole heap of links on the health benefits of raspberries at one stage. Have to see if I can find it for you....

Re: Anyone online??
Just remember to get him to a hospital if he also gets symptoms like fever, or lowered mental awareness/congnition. I had the father of some boys I tutored die beacause he blamed being ill on food poisoning when it was meningoccocal. He caught it from no apparent source after going to a movie with his boys that evening and died in the early hours the next morning.
Obviously, an extreme case scenario but it pays to be a boy scout: hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Hopefully charc & jam fixes him up a treat!
