Exclamation infant flu relief????

DD and I have the flu though hopefully i can fight it off before it really takes us over. I am taking homeopathics and garlic (even though it gives dd explosive gas - sorry bubba), vitamen c and hopefully this will continue to give my immune system an edge.

Does anyone have any suggestions for natural relief for DD, 2 months old, as DP and i wish to avoid allopathic medicine unless absolutly nessesary. I am just feeding her as much as i can and lots of cuddles.

Thanks in advance...

is it flu or a cold? If it's flu, just go to bed and let it take it's course and feel like death...

If it's a cold, drink lots of water and do comfort things like hot honey and lemons (with whiskey for the non bf adults )

Either way, riding it out about all you can do.

I would have thought the best thing she can get is in the milk from you. Drink heaps of water and rest up. You'll pass on whatever immune edge you gain to her.
Hope it doesn't last too long. My eyes are watering just thinking about it, we've been pretty lucky so far this year.

Steam is alway a gentle way to help clear congestion, can you get a comfy chair into the bathroom and bf/cuddle her in there while you run the shower on hot for a few minutes? If you have a humidifier that should help also. I hope you feel better soon! Echinacea is a good one (and is safe for bfing) for you to take.

Absolutely - get the breastmilk in to your baby. Nothing is better at this young age. Your body (and your milk) is busy making antibodies and other fighting mechanisms to help your body work through this.....so your milk is acting as a "natural remedy" for your baby. Infact, it will also be picking up on the fact that your baby is unwell, and making *specific* antibodies to treat your baby. They don;t call it liquid gold for nothing!

I agree that if it is the true flu, as diagnosed by a professional, then there isn't too much you can do except make yourself as comfortable as possible

My Dr recomended taking zinc while sick. and giving liquid zinc to bub, starting with five mls a day then reducing to 2.5mls after a week, for another one to two weeks
however a two month old might be a bit too little.

If you're taking lots of Vit C, that will be adding to bubs bowel issues.

Absolutely boob juice for bubba, although you might like to try olive leaf extract for a boost yourself. Make sure you keep up your fluids as well. I find vaporising some eucalyptus oil helps, too.
