Our son had chicken pox at 2 years of age. He handled it super well. DH picked it up from friends of ours, and then DS picked it up. He is now 7, so I can't remember too much of the details, except to say that it couldn't have been that bad if it's not at the forefront of my memory :wink

I seem to remember that itching and so forth wasn't much of a hassle for him, either. He didn't have a shocking case...probably average, really.

It's just reassuring to know that he has natural, life-long immunity now

Having said that....I'm not so much looking forward to any future catchings for our children I'm certainly not one of the mums who put their children in contact with infected individuals. I hide

None of mine have caught anything at all except colds and the odd flu.

No nothing yet, I've been worrying about the chickenpox, since she's at school now she'll probably bring it home soon enough. I was hoping she'd be a bit younger when she got it.

my oldest two are vaxxed, xanthia partially, josie not at all.

niccola's had german measles, but at 11 month and would have been vaxxed for it a month later. she was pretty crook, but she was 11m old, so understandable.

the others have never had any vaxxable illnesses - justin has only had tonsilitis, and anythign else lasted literally seconds. xanthia has had a couple of bouts of being hot and lethargic, but nothign else. ditto josie.

DS1 is vaxxed and DD and DS2 aren't. None of them has got any of the childhood diseases.

My current worry, that I need to do a bit of research on, is Tetanus. Mum mentioned (in a conversation not related to the kids) about a woman we used to know, who got tetanus from gardening from a very small wound like a papercut. She ended up in ICU with a tracheotomy. My kids play in the garden a lot, and I can't keep track of their scrapes and scratches and I really need to do some research. Now that DD is over two, I would consider selective vaccination.

I want my kids to get chicken pox for lifelong immunity, so hopefully someone I know will get them and we can have a party

DS is 18 months & as yet hasn't come down with anything other than cold/flu. I've recently been concerned about his exposure to vaccinated children shedding, but so far so good. We too were thinking about doing the tetanus vaccination but after reading this http://www.vaccination.inoz.com/Tetanus.html aren't convinced so would be interested to hear what you decide Kara

Meningococcal (sp) was a worry for me after a recent scare with B, and there being quite a few reported cases in Qld this year. W just had this at 2 (after 12 months they only require the one shot). He's almost past the danger zone for Pneumococcal so we won't worry about that one.
