Public Hospital Emergency Dept- Not a rant!
Can you believe we were just at the emergency dept for B who split her chin and were in and out within half an hour?!
She was given glue rather than stitches and of course the do you want a tetanus shot with that suggestive sell.
I think I am more in shock that we were seen to so quickly than by her actually getting hurt.

Re: Public Hospital Emergency Dept- Not a rant!
I agree, Well done!
When Jayden split his eye open I knew he needed stitches. The nurse was about to send us home and then said "Wait, no. I will clean it first" and in the process changed his mind and decided he needed stitches.
I haven't gotten a self-diagnosis wrong yet!
It took us about 5 hours to be seen and we had to come back the following day to get his stitches put in under GA.

wow, that's very impressive!
We spent about 3 or 4 hours with DS2's split chin, also glued, end of last year. (The staff were fantastic though, but just not enough of them - not their fault. They did an initial check it out, but then obviously others with bigger need took priority)

What a sad experience 0BleSseD0.
Kathi, I was expecting to be there for the long haul too. Luckily we had been out this morning so my big tote had my knitting and the girls notebooks and pencils already packed.
Poor G was in such a panic and is all fretting about infection now. I think she was the one who ended up with the most rescue remedy!

Glad G is ok and you had such a postive experience in emergency. We (my son and I) have spent many long hours waiting in a and e, due to many varied reasons. But, we have also been the cause of everyone else having to wait when my son stopped breathing at 6 weeks of age.
Glad all is ok

I'd wait for that!
I don't think ANYBODY would complain about that.

Re: Public Hospital Emergency Dept- Not a rant!
I never heard anyone complain - but even now, sometimes when I am sitting waiting I still think - boy, I wish they could hurry up. Then I think about what happened with Sam and realize I have no idea of what is going on in those cubicles. Patience, patience, patience. I guess when you are seen extra quick in the emergency department we should all be doubly thankful. Quick treatment and no one extra sick!

Re: Public Hospital Emergency Dept- Not a rant!
Fabulous! I'm also glad G is OK. It could only happen when you are on holidays, heh?
We have had great and terrible experiences with our emergency dept. Our children are all seen to pronto and I have absolutely no harsh word to say about the wait or treatment. Us adults, though - it is disgusting. I sat in the waiting room for 4 hours once, on a continual nebuliser, for asthma attacks....and once admitted (for 2 week, mind you, it was that uncontrollable!), I spent a fair amount of days in the corridor of a ward! Not enough beds....
My husband - a broken pinkie....sat waiting to see doctor from 11pm until 5am next morning!
