Question Bowel Obstruction?

Hi all
Sam was hospitalised on Saturday with what we thought was just gastro but turned out to be a bowel obstruction. He had been vomiting since Thursday and was put on a drip for rehydration Saturday afternoon and Sat night they did an xray and ultrasound and found the obstruction. We stayed in until today lunchtime. I didn't find the hospital too helpful in explaining anything to me (we had gone away for the weekend and went to Caboolture hospital, the closest to Toorbul) we normally go to the Royal Children's for his treatment/illnesses as he is so complex and is the closest to home.
He stopped vomitting yesterday lunchtime but has barely eaten since (1 jelly cup and 2 mouthfuls of scrambled eggs).
I am not overly worried about him at the moment, he seems well hydrated and alert but am concerned as whether the obstruction would still be there and if so, what should I be looking for as to whether it is still an issue. Anyone had any experience with this sort of thing before?

Sorry no experience with obstruction, but i would suggest that you go straight to your regular pead or gp and let them know what happened, they should be able to answer your questions. And because they know Sam they would know if perhapds any follow up tests or anything should be done.

Glad to hear that Sam seems much better now, it wouldnt have been very nice for him.

I have no experience with it, but boy it sure sounds scary.

Do you think it might be worth a trip into the Royal Children's just to get things checked out thoroughly?

Since posting I have phoned the RCH and spoke with his regular dr and all going well am taking him in for a check up with her in the morning (in the meantime she is requesting his xray and notes from the Cab Hosp). He's still looking well so fingers crossed there is no midnight drive in and he'll be fine till the morning! Thanks for the replies

It sounds like Sam has a wonderful regular Dr. Will def keep everything crossed for you. Those midnight hospital runs are horrible.
