Default Ongoing family illnesses

I've just realised that we are almost halfway through the year and I am quite sure we haven't gone longer than a week when someone in our famiy (immediate) hasn't been sick.

Mainly colds and runny noses, 1 ear infection, DH and I have had the flu at least 3 times. Last night, DH and I spent the night stationed next to the toilet, DS had the same 2 nights ago.

Anyway, my question is, are we lacking something?? I am beginning to question if I am doing something wrong. I have never given the children any sort of vitamins but am beginning to think I might need to. DH and I don't take any supplements either.

Perhaps I should give them something as they are recovering to give them a boost? I am tired of constantly having a sick family

Both chidren were beastfed - DS until he was 6 months old, DD until she was 21 months old. They both get just as many colds and both seem to bounce back at the same rate. On the other hand, DS has had 2 ear infections and DD hasn't had any (touch wood!).

DS lacks vegies and fruit in his diet - he will pick out half a pea in his dinner then refuse to eat the rest of it. We try to get as much fruit/vege juice into him which strangely enough he enjoys and helps make.

Any suggestions anyone? Should I give them some supplements and if so, what?

There would definitely be something that you could all take to nurture your immune system as it recovers. Have you got details of a natropath in your area? They can get you on to some great supplements too

Seeing a naturopath or a nutritionist is a good idea. A good one will help you work out what they're lacking before advising on what to add to their diet, as you don't want to give them unnecessary supplements either.

Yes, I agree. I remember having a year like this when my eldest started preschool. It was a whole year of illness for the whole family. It was really hard on everyone. He had not been a part of group care until then so it was a bit of a baptism of fire. None the less, we have not had a great deal of sickness since and that is nearly eighteen months ago. Good for building the immunity!
