Default How long does it take for dairy to leave the system?

I ALWAYS have a blocked nose and have finally decided I am going to eliminate dairy from my diet. I'm just wondering, if this is my problem, how long will it take until I start to see an improvement?

Is there anyone out there who is dairy and soy free? (I'm not keen on soy). What do you substitue for cream, natural yoghurt and mayo? There is not much about cheese is there?

I like rice and oat milk, so that's easy to replace, plus I didn't drink much milk anyway.

I don't have much icecream, but chocolate is going to be struggle. Carob is dairy free isn't it? Anyone know of some nice carob stuff?

    Hi there

I went dairy free when I was b/feeding DD as she has a milk allergy. It probably took about three weeks I think for her skin to clear up so I'm assuming that that's about how long before your body is clear of it.

As far as I know carob still has milk in it, I've been warned against it by my health food shop for DD but you can buy pretty nice dairy free chocolate - pretty hard if you're going soy free as well!

A bit OT but I also constantly had a blocked nose. I went to see a specialist who told me I would never breathe through my nose without surgery. I went and did a Buteyko healthy breathing course for my asthma (which has now all but gone) and a very welcome side effect was clear breathing through my nose ever since. Even my hayfever went away. Worth looking into if your elimination diets have no results.

    Hi Maple,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have heard good things about Buteyko, my cousin did it for her asthma too and raved about it. Might look into it.

carob is sugar free, not dairy free.

We are not soy free but have been dairy free for 4.5 years now. You might have to wait up to 6 weeks for your system to compltely heal and see the best improvement. But you will be able to see results within days.

There is a praise 97% (or somthing) fat free mayo that is dairy (and egg) free. The other more natural brands are soy based.

Cream - only soy, havent tried it though. Yoghurt, theres goats?? but all others that Im aware are soy based.

Bonnie is dairy and soy free, although she does have some trace amounts of soy in bread.

Forget about things like cheese, icecream and chocolate if you're going to eliminate both. Sorry, but after 3 years I've never heard of anything.

Bonnie has a really great diverse diet while eliminating dairy, soy, eggs and nuts from her diet. It is possible, it's just training your palate

I'd give it 1-2 weeks before you start to notice results.

I know its dairy free... Its off limits for us due to the 'may contain traces of dairy and nuts...'

oh and if you find you improve but not as well as you would like, try eliminating any foods that contain it as an ingredient - its in everything!!

I have a list of names for dairy for when your checking labels - let me know if you want it

Didn't know there was a mayo that was dairy and egg free. We've been giving DD a soy one from the health food section but it's not very nice. Might have to check this one out. We can't do egg either.

DD can have dark chocolate as thankfully she is not allergic to nuts, doesn't eat them or their products though, but traces are fine for us.
