Smile Idea's re-clothing swap meet.

I am interested in starting up a clothing swap meet here in the Yarra Valley. Alas, most of my research tells you how to organise something at your home with your friends and family. I am hoping to organise something in a hall for members of the public. I would like to make this available to many. The thing is, as it is a swap, that means it's free to bring items and exchange them for something else. As I haven't done this sort of thing before (and am not affiliated with any charity), I am wondering how one would cover costs for hall hire? Would it be fair to ask for "gold coin donation"? (even though they are bringing items to exchange for other items). Or is there another way? I like the idea of clothing swaps exchanging clothes for all members of the family. We all know that our kids keep growing out of things. I think it would be great to bring clothes that they have grown out of (still in good condition) and exchange them for something else in their current size. Would be great to find something for me too. I like that is very "green" too.

I don't really know about hall hire etc but perhaps you could ask at Mothers groups if people would be interested in coming along before you commit to actually going ahead.
A couple of years ago a group I was in organized a clothing swap, mostly kids clothes it was great, but not many people came and there was alot of stuff left over, it was all donated to Lifeline if I remember rightly.
It's a great idea, good luck!
