Default Really dirty nappies!

Can you help me?

Today I've started using Motherease Onesize on my 5 wk old daughter, with popper wraps and paper liners. She just dirtied her nappy and it went through the legs and leaked onto my clothes! At the moment I'm making the smallest size and folding the nappy over.
She tends to only go the toilet once a day, so it'll probably be a regular occurance. I don't know how to stop the poo coming out of her nappy because I can't get them to fit more snuggly.
Does any one have any tips to stop the poo going everywhere? How do you clean a really dirty nappy?
I've picked off most of the mess with some paper but there's still a lot on the nappy, and have soaked the nappy in Bio-D in a bucket. The stains still look like they're there.
Please help! xxx

the only way to stop that is to make sure it fits properly around the legs, if not maybe you could put a cover over the top until it fits a bit better?

Also, no need to soak the nappies, just scrape off what you can and put in the bucket until you wash it, most of the stain if not all will come out in the sun.

Motherease one size are a really large nappy even when folded and snapped to the smallest size. There is very little chance that you will get it to fit better on a newborn, therefore your problem will not be solved in the next little while. I would suggest that you invest in some smaller nappies for now and also some tighter covers/wraps.
I have found paper liners to be a problem in the past as the poo tends to slide off, fleece liners are really a much better option.
Make sure you rinse your pooey nappies (and fleece liners and covers) really well. Do you have a "Little Squirt"? Then just put them in the nappy bucket until you have a load ready to wash. Do not soak modern cloth nappies. Once washed put them in the sun to dry and most residual stains should come out.
HTH.
From personal experience I found that Motherease are not very absorbant, there are much better options out there. Good luck with your cloth nappy journey, once you find the system/s that are right for you and your babe cloth nappying can become quite addictive.

I second the Little Squirt for cleaning soiled nappies before drypailing. We had DD in disposables for pretty much the first year & even they had some spectacular blowouts. I think it's going to happen regardless of the nappy, but maybe try different types to see if you can get a better fit, especially when she's so small.

If you recognise that a poo is on its way, you can help her get it straight into a little potty (eg potty bowl) rather than into the nappy and then have to clean the nappy and her up afterwards. I used infant pottying (also known as EC or elimination communication) with my daughter from about that age and it made cloth nappying so much cleaner :-)
There is a wonderful section about EC at the Tribal Baby site.
