Hi everyone, i'm going nuts with my worm farm at the moment and i'm hoping someone might be able to help me out a bit! I've had my WF for about 1 year now and all's been going good except i went to feed them 2 days ago and noticed there was no worms, i lifted everything up to look in the warm casting drainage section and there they all were!! so with a bit of mucking around i got them back to where they were supposed to be and i just checked on them today and half of them were back down there. Has anyone else had this problem?! Does anyone have any suggestions because it's either i've got stoopid worms or i'm doing something wrong, and i'm ussuming worms can't be that stupid. THanks! |

Hi Brandi Welcome to NP! Do you mean they are in the very bottom bit where the liquid is? or in the bottom tray where the worm castings are? If they are in the liquid, that's a worry as they'll drown cos they can't get out If they're just hanging in the bottom tray it's because it's hot now and they burrow down to escape the heat. Make sure it's in the shade in as cool a place as you can find. I find my worms are pretty inactive at this time of year and the numbers dwindle - it's just too hot for them. But then in autumn they come back with a vengence. Just means more scraps for the chooks over summer! (I LOVE my chooks!) Happy worming xx

Hi Louise, thanks for your reply! The worms are actually going down to where the liquid is and that's why its so baffling!! I can understand why they'd get so hot being in that box all day but they're always undercover and never get sun on them. Well, i hope i figure it out soon as they're pretty cool little creatures to have! Thanks again! |

Yeah!! I am surprised how attached to my little worms! As far as them going into the liquid, I have not idea. Actually maybe mine go there too?! And that's why the numebrs dwindle. I just figured they got too hot and there wasn't alot I could do about it - mine are in the shade in the garage, but it just gets hot here you know, even in the shade. But now that you've got me thinking about it, I wonder if you could put a frozen plastic drink container with the lid off in there to let them cool off? I do this for the rabbits sometimes and they LOVE it! Let me know how you go xx
