Smile Frost tolerant shade loving plants.

(Haven't posted anything for most of this year been too busy).

Anyhoo....about half of my front garden doesn't get a lot sun. Don't want to grow grass. I prefer edible things, but it seems that the things that love shade aren't frost tolerant and the things that are frost tolerant don't like shade. There must be something!?

If there are absolutely no edibles that are frost tolerant and like mostly shade, then I will just go for something ornamental.

I hate grass. I have gotten rid of most of it and am even planting out my nature strip (verge for those in other states). I want my whole garden to be grass free. To some it might look neat and nice. To me, it's pointless maintaining something that can't be eaten. Even my nature strip has fruit trees, shrubs and pansies (you can eat the flowers). May put some calendula out the front too.

Hmmmm....can't think of any shade loving, frost tolerant edibles. Actually, ginger is the only one I can think of. For ornamentals, hellebores are pretty, although certainly NOT edible. Agapanthus will fit the bill & fill out the space, too

There may be some edible ideas here:

Friends of the Earth (Sydney) Low Waste Trees and Shrubs - Table
Bamboo for Pastoral Farms
Gardens
Permaculture Plants
Edible Landscaping with Charlie Nardozzi :: National Gardening Association
