We have chickens AND a vege patch!!!!!

Yes, we do!!! bout a month ago we bought 2 little silky bantam chickens for the kids a white one which Mia called "polly" and a brown one that taj called "Zinger" (yes, as in KFC ...you can thank DH for that one) LOL.
They are sooooooo cute. They were one week old when we got them and now they are so big. DH made the cutest lil house for them (it replicates the kids wooden cubby, just smaller) and a small area to run around. They are very friendly and love the kids.
As well as that, DH also built me two huge raised beds to finally plant my vege/heb patch. I have planted alot of things and so far they are all flourishing. It is very exciting as I am over 'buying' fruit and veg. We already have a mango tree, bananna tree and avocado tree on our land when we moved in but I have also just planted a pawpaw tree, as well as strawberries, string beans, tomatos, mint, chives, roly poly carrots, rocket, lettuce, basil, baby spinach, chili, capsicum, leeks, garlic and pumpkin. But I plan on doing more as the weather warms up. I actually made my self a salad the other day with my 'garden' and it was YUMMO!
Anyway, just thought I'd share and have a brag.

I would love to move to a nice rural property (plenty around here....but just finding the $$$ for them ) and set up a huge vege patch, chickens, goat, fruit trees...... dreamin'

Actually, we arnt on a rural property marmee, We live in suberbia on the gold coast, we just have a realy big block...so anything is possable...you dont need to live on a farm to have these things!...no need to dream!

I've just bought 3 hens and my dear husband made a hen-tractor to move it about our little suburban backyard... now we've run into trouble with the resident bush turkey. He's NOT happy about the hens invading his territory. He is terrorising my poor chookies; us ladies are all very upset!! Help! I'm currently waiting on a call from DPI to see what they say...

Um, plastic snakes and pictures of cats can deter the turkey, but they'll spook your hens too. Maybe she/he has a nest nearby. So if you can wait it out, it'll probably find a more private nest site next season.
