Default washing nappies.... enzymes!

I notice some of the eco friendly powders contain enzymes..... is it ok to wash nappies with powders containing enzymes?

I wash my nappies with Napisan in the pre-wash rinse cycle, then with regular powder in the full wash cycle. I've also used white vinegar as a "softener" on nappies at times. I often tumble dry the boosters and fitteds too (not the PUL or fleece covers/pockets). So far, only two of my nappies has had the elastic go, and one of those was very old and second-hand when I got it. I have over 70 MCNs and more than 25 brands in my stash, so I figure that in general, nappies aren't as fragile as some people claim them to be. The fitteds do start to fray around the edges after a while from the cotton breaking down, but it's taken three years and three kids for that to happen.

Isn't vinegar a no-no aswell? Or is that only for particular materials??

You'd think after umpteen years of nappy washing I'd have it together, wouldn't you???

Apparently, it can break down PUL over time, but fine to use on flats.

As for the OP, some people can react to enzymes, especially sensitive young skin, which is why it's not usually recommended for nappies. However, enzymes are best for breaking down biological stains (food, wee, poo), but maybe used only on occasion.

Yep, most nappy manufacturers recommend that you wash without sanitiser or white vinegar. The only things I really follow from manufacturers are no fabric softener (leaves a water resistant coating on fabrics), and no soaking (unless it's a really bad stain which only happens once every six months). I firmly believe that my time is too valuable to be wasted hand washing, ironing, or fussing over anything else in the laundry

most eco detergents (real eco ones) use plant based enzymes not chemical based anyway so they should be fine but i have heard that over time the normal chemical based detergents can wear down the PUL.
