We've recently discovered mice in our home, attracted by dog food I suspect? Last time we had a rodent problem we resorted to baiting them. This time however, I decided to get a humane rodent trap. S didn't have time to drill air holes (don't know why this isn't done already) so I placed a small obstruction between the door and the frame to allow adequete airflow without compromising the trap. I placed the trap out last night with a little bird seed and some leftover pizza crust inside. Within three minutes of me walking away, I heard the trap shut. I lay in bed feeling terrible. I know there are two mice in the house, and I felt sorry for the other one. I wanted to let it out and catch him again another time so he didn't have to spend the whole night in the trap. I really didn't expect it to happen immediately. So S dutifully took the trap with him to work this morning, and after fueling up at a service station decided that the bushy area behind would be better suited to a mouse than the vast dirt of his worksite. He opened the trap and... nothing. LOL Obviously the trap had gone off prematurely. Anyone have any humane trap success stories?

We've got mice and I've just bought some non-humane kill 'em traps. There is a bit of a plague of them atm, so think that letting them go probably isn't a nice option anyway. But that said, still wouldn't use bait - too dangerous for native animals (specially tawnys and owls).

Nope. No luck with humane traps either. We had the best results from the grey ones that they crawl into before getting snapped. I think I got them from Coles. If I weren't allergic I would have prefered to just get a cat. |

We have a little friend living with us too. We're looking for a trap, not sure what to get and what's available.

Sorry this post isn't of much help, but I have a funny story?! I once knew a lady, who hated the idea of killing mice in conventional mouse traps and bought the humane ones. Then she would take them to the vets and have them de-sexed. (20 yrs ago, it cost her $70 each time). Once they were brought home from the Vet's, she would release them to be with their furry mates again. Haven't lived in a place with mice for a while. Had a mice plague in Caulfield, when I live there in my teens. I was raised in a single parent house. So, some nights, if there was a good movie on (that was going to run until very late), that mum and I both wanted to watch, I would hop into mum's bed. We'd pig out on movie snacks and watch TV. Anyhoo....Later that night, when we were both sleeping, mum woke to the sound a rustling. Unable to find the source- half asleep- mum went back to sleep. In the morning, mum woke me up, to breakfast in bed (she was a grouse mum) and placed her pillow behind mine so I could sit up and eat the breakfast. She noticed, but didn't say anything, a dead mouse poking out of the pillow case. Later, when I got out of bed, to have a shower, mum disposed of it and told me about it days later. |

ive had HEAPS of success with humane rat traps when we lived in an area that had a bit of a rat problem. we have some living outside here but so far they havent caused a problem so im not going to worry about traps ( and we have local owls that need some prey) keep trying with the traps ! good on you for not setting ratsak - that stuff is pure evil
