Default Harvesting sweet potato

So after 4 1/2 months I decided to pull my sweet potato. They're all small. I mean tiny- roughly 5cmx1cm. Are they OK to eat?

I suppose so. They're not nightshades so I think they'd be fine.

Why'd you pull them up?

Because I read Leanne's blog and she twisted my arm LOL Once I'd dug up a few littlies on the outside I thought I'd find the mother load in the middle... um no. I've left the central ball of tubes planted as I read that even a stem can produce plants, so I must have some luck with a cluster of tubes?

4.5 months of waiting for tiny little spuds LOL

Ours were the same Kathy. Been about six months I think now too! We're going to dig them up before long to selvage that half of the vege patch for something else. I'm sick of looking at the ugly vine.

We started growing some white potatoes from cut-off bits of organic potatoes we bought during the year, and figured we'd try the same for some sweet potatoes too... can anyone point me in the right direction of maybe that blog mentioned above, or somewhere with some good sweet-potato growing tips??

There's a pub across the road from where I work that serves sweet potato fries that are... absolutely yummy!! I make them alot at home too, most of the time more like a wedge-style arrangement on the bbq.

Thanks for that link too!

I really think about six months growth minimum is what it takes. But perhaps the soil wasn't friable or rich enough for them yet?
