Default Car pooling

I've just been researching how to set up a car pool and walking school bus for my kids' school P & C. Thought I would provide a place to share ideas and links of relevance:

Has anyone already done a similar thing? I'd like to hear about it.

My children's school is a small country school and most families have to drive quite a distance to school. There is a bus service, but it is unsuitable for small children as the trip from home to school for many students is around 1.5 hours!

The car park is limited by geography yet the school is growing at an astronomical rate, making the school car park a stressful undertaking every morning and afternoon. I see carpools and walking school buses as a way of addressing this issue. And also, a great way to teach our kids about environmental concerns related to mode of travel.

I have thought about the same thing but never actually got further than thinking about it. My children would love to walk to school and ll along the main road towards the school we could pick up other children. And most people do drivewhich is an awful lot of cars starting up to drive a very short distance and a lot of kids missing out on some excersize.
Car pooling would be so sensible too- ease that 3pm car park craziness I have thought about these things but never done anything about it. I will definetly check out the links. Thanks

I started by talking to the school principal and putting it all into an email for her.

There are other awareness-raising initiatives that the school can adopt and promote such as "Walk to School Day" and "Bike to School Day" just once a year.

Thanks Hanabi. We often car pool on an informal basis, might have a chat to our principal about it.

I live close to the local state school and they have a walking bus which the kids seem to love.
