Don't mean to "butt in" on your thread! but I heard Shannon Lush on the ABC (she's the speed cleaning woman who is really into bicarb and vinegar) anyway she said orange juice!!! It must be 100% pure orange juice (but long life packs are OK) You simple saturate the hair with it, the acid kills all live lice on contact then you leave it in the hair while you comb it with a lice comb to get the dead ones out and all the eggs and you leave the hair to dry with the orange juice still in it. Then you simply rinse it out with warm water and from then on you just use ordinary hair conditioner and a lice comb daily for a week or so to make sure you've got all the eggs out. Haven't tried it but I have tried her other tips and they have been fantastic.

Wow, orange juice, I never would have thought of that one. I am currently using a blend of water-soluable tea-tree oil and lavender oil (about 1 part of each to 5 parts water) and it gets them out really well. Apparently tea-tree oil also prevents them a bit too.

My main problem is not getting time to do it. My son has shoulder length thick surfy blonde hair. DD makes it hard to do anything for 15 minutes let alone comb through for eggs for an hour or so. So I'm trying to find a remedy that will kill eggs and lice and loosen eggs so they come off easier (vinegar seems to work ok) and then a preventative (teatree in shampoo) When i get rid of just the lice there are another generation next time I treat. I can't put all the info up here sorry.

in the end i found just picking each egg out with my finger nails and the hair dry did the trick, i found anything in the hair just got in te way. and i agree the time issue is a bummer. i never want them again!

I was warned off tea tree oil...anything that drys out the hair and makes it "too clean" therefore roughing up the hair shaft makes it easier for the lice to hang on and lay eggs. Slippery hair makes it really hard for them so conditioner is perfect after you have killed the live ones. It also makes the eggs slide off easily.

Well I am willing to give anything a go.
We have battled lice for many years now with no real success.

I have heard the conditioner thing too...makes the hair too slippery for the eggs to attach to..so easier to remove.
