Default Hair pulling

I am currently limiting the amount of time I hold DS as he pulls my hair. He used to grab a handfull and just feel it and tickle his face with it. It has now progressed to grabbing a handfull and yanking with all his might, often resulting in him pulling out half a dozen hairs. I have tried telling him to be gentle and removing his hands, I have tried putting my hair up but he grabs it anyway. How can I discourage it?

Can you tie it up for a while so it's not so tempting to him, and he might forget?

My DD is slowly growing out of this.

One thing I found worked well was to hold her hand and gently stroke my hair. She genuinely loves the feel of it and her face lights up.

Yesterday she did gently stroke my hair instead of pull it when she found the opportunity.
It was a sweet moment.

I'd say a quick 'no, that hurts!' and putting your son down facing away from you says it all, that or the stroking. I found that at first helping DD stroke made her frustrated so I just waited it out (while putting her facing away from me) until she was open to help.

there is another thread about this where you may find some ideas, but at your bubs age I would try distracting. If he starts to pull your hair, or even before he does, show him a toy/teddy/whatever. It is a phase and they do grow out of it.... and start it up again, and grow out of it and start it up again and on and on

Thanks. He does it more when tired and cranky, a comfort thing. If I put it up then he is much more forcefull at getting a fistfull! I have tried the gently thing, and sometimes he gets it but not usually. It just drives me nuts.

Give it time, he'll probably find something else in time to bug you with!! My bub's current one is picking at a large mole on my boob when she's feeding, made it bleed profusely several times. I have to either put a permanent band aid on it or feed her with my finger stuck on it.
