Default Shalom in the home

I've been watching this program on Foxtel and I tells ya's
I LOVE Shmuli (sp?)
The children are always the first people he listens to.
He never blames them. He's honest with the parents and doesn't just critisize, he offers resolve.

For once, I have found a TV program about parenting that doesn't get my goat

which is more than I can say about the program before it, where a group of Mums met up to swap paretning ideas in a coffee shop and one mum came away feeling like she learned so much.. she says, I don't like spanking.. so I am going to try out pinching my child as suggested

Saw him on a current affairs show and was impressed, found his website too, posted an article here, something about the joys of having a quiverfull of children?

Wish I could afford pay tv

Oh, and I was impressed this morning - weekend sunrise - I caught the end of a talkback segment where someone was obviously having trouble getting their older child to stay in their own bed - the guy was advocating staying with the child until they went to sleep in their own bed And he suggested it might take 5 weeks of persisting with taking them back to their own bed - no "leave them to cry it out and in 3 days they'll be fine" crap

Yeah Ive seen him too. I was pretty impressed as well. He's been on Oprah and a few other shows lately.
He seems to really care about the kids.

YAAAAAAY!!!!! My hubby and I have made "Rabbi Shmuley" our mantra! Everytime we feel pressed or at the end of our rope with our lot, we look at each other and say "Rabbi Shmuley!"

Really?? I've watched "Shalom in the Home" a few times & have found Rabbi Schmuley to very, very un-AP. I refuse to watch anymore.

He goes on about disciplining kids & how "you are the parent" and tell them what's what. One episode I watched he was going on about how the child needs to learn to sleep in their own bed (I think the boy was 2 or 3 years old) and to let him scream & not give in. It was full-on CC.

Any wonder he has so many kids to his (Aussie) wife... No kids in the bed.

He's also been very criticised for being anti-extended breastfeeding - comments along the lines of that it interferes with the husband's access to boobs...

Ugh!!

I've seen Shalom in the Home a few times, and I don't see it so much as a 'parenting' program as a 'relationships' program - he talks about the relationship between the parents as being the vital, foundation relationship and how this helps children feel secure and learn how to interact with people outside the home. Though I don't agree with everything he says, he certainly has a lot of good thinking behind it.

I saw one episode where he helped a grieving widow move on from her husband's death 5 years previous, and look to a new future with her two little girls. It was very inspiring.

Ew! Oh well, at least as savvy consumers of modern media, we can take the good stuff and sift out the dross.

hubby has zero access to my boobs at present, and it's going to stay that way until I'm ready! I mean, I understand the biblical principle of not withholding sex from your partner out of spite or to blackmail etc, but don't believe the husband's access to sex comes before the health and parenting of the children...not that boobs are essential for sex anyway (unless you're married to someone who's boob obsessed ) As a religious person, he'd be advocating marriage for life, there's a lotta, lotta years either side of breastfeeding for that sort of stuff

Are you sure you are watching the same program?
I found he was very AP and I reckon the reason why there aren't any kids in his bed is because they are happy to sleep on their own. I can't see him letting any child scream in their room, he would more than likely work out what's bothering them about sleeping in their own bed and work on how to make them happy to stay there
