Default Help please!

We've been winging it so far with dd. She's now almost 20 months & is generally a very gorgeous child.

However... recently her behaviour has totally changed & she has been biting, pinching & hitting me. I've been saying "ouch, you hurt Mummy. I don't like it when you do that & I don't want to play with you now" & I will walk away from her for at least a couple of minutes.

I've not read any gentle parenting books at all & I am now at a loss as to what to do with her sometimes, and I wonder if I'm reacting the right way.

She is really trying my patience & testing the boundaries now. Yes, I'm aware that this is normal behaviour for her age, but what do I do about it?

I'm expecting baby number 2 in 3 months & need to get a handle on what we're doing with dd before new bubs comes along. I got quite angry with her recently & it scared me that I could be that way (I yelled at her & then I cried about it & I still feel awful for doing it).

So, anyway, can you please recommend a good book to read? I'm looking for something that is an easy reference book & not too long-winded.

Many thanks for any advice and/or recommendations!

DS is the same age. I know how it feels when you think you could have handled a situation in a more loving way but we are human afterall and sometimes our emotions can overwhelm us.

I have a book called 'Adventures In Gentle Discipline' by Hilary Flower which I think is great. It's a parent to parent guide and so the bulk of the book is contributions made by real life parents who practice gentle discipline, as opposed to some 'expert' telling you how to raise your kids.

Take care, and wishing you a beautiful birth and lovely time with your new bub and family.
