Default professional help

We have decided to seek some professional advice re our 4 yr old and behaviour. We would try a AP type parenting course, or some sort of APish type medical assessment (for behaviour) or some sort of counselling re this issue. We need help to find something! So, I am frightened of getting some sort of supernanny response, or drugs are the solution response- where can we go for more AP/NP type advice??

The type of thing we are facing is constant opposition to anything (no no no no for everything and its gone on for over 2 yrs and is not a passing phase), physical violence, threats (Im going to chop your neck off and kill you).
Constant night waking (almost never slept through the night), constant bedwetting (1-5 times a night), I could go on. We have read all the books and tried all our ideas, including failsafe- we are out of motivation, energy and its effecting our family badly. If he keeps on like this he will be in prison when he is 10.
Where can we go for some professional advice??

If you ask around parents in your local area, or phone organisations like Centacare, they may be able to recommend a family or child counsellor with a more AP approach.

It's great that you're still looking for help to deal with this stuff, and haven't just given up on him. I often think how hard it must be to deal with what you're dealing with. Your instincts are great, so if the advice that professionals are giving you feels wrong, then just find a different source of advice.

If you're still not sure if there might be a physical cause for the behaviour, you could also try seeing a naturopath or a nutritionist who's an expert with children.

Homeopath. If you get a good one, the whole family is taken into account. Everyones needs and feelings are looked at and remedies can be tailored to you individually. I had success with my then 7yr old. Besides the remedy itself there were some great suggestions/prescriptions. eg. Lots of time spent barefoot on different textures (grass, sand, mud, shallow water) in order to help 'ground' her better. You're addressing this stuff at a great time, before that first 7yr cycle has ended. Strength to you whilst you search for the right practitioner.
