Default Stages of growth and crying book

I found a book in the Brisbane library system that told how babies not only have physical growth spurts but brain growth spurts as well. It had a chart for the first 2 years of a baby's life showing when these various stages happened typically and what would be the developmental mile stone to look for.

For instance at one stage the baby's perception of hot and cold improves. When it is first happening they get really upset that things are changing and then they get better at expressing when they feel too hot or too cold so cry more often but not as often as at first.

This book was so spot on for my first. If he started to grizzle all day I would check the chart, sometimes he would be a week or so out in age but I would watch him, check for all the other usual things like diet changes, growth spurts physically, teething and so many times it was spot on.

Does any one know of this book? Possibly "Why babies cry?" or something like it.

I would love to get the name of it. It really helped me to cope so much better with those "he just doesn't like me anymore" times that can be so tiring in early baby days to know there was a reason and purpose.

Best wishes,
Mama3boys

Hi,
If that is the book I'm thinking of it is a book translated from Dutch called the "the wonder weeks" in the U.S. It is by Hetty van de Rijt and Francis X. Plooij. I have read the Dutch version and thought it was fantastic reasurance that my baby was developing well mentally. Though some of things they say a baby is capable of at each stage my kids didn't show signs of so early, but they were both different. I guess that it varies for every baby.

That was it. I knew the authors had really obscure names.

I will have to look into finding it again.

Thanks
