Celebrity breastfeeding: Angelina Jolie (twins!) and Jessica Alba

Spotted a couple of great celebrity breastfeeding stories on the Celebrity Baby Blog.

Angelina Jolie is breastfeeding her twins (with Brad Pitt - born 3 weeks ago by caesarean). There's lots of detail in the article about how it is possible to breastfeed twins and to do it after a caesarean, including tips like do a breastfeeding class while pregnant or "watch a friend breastfeed to be truly awestruck".

Jessica Alba is also breastfeeding her new baby Honor (born 9 weeks ago). She also had a natural birth, using hypnobirthing techniques.

Ok I'm going to sound reeeaally cynical here, could be that I woke up in a bad mood..but has anyone noticed that air of heroism, if you like, when a celebrity does child birth naturally? Oh yay, isn't she amazing...yadayada, yet nobody seems to give a toss when the average woman does it? Like myself? Twice... and I have to bite my tongue so many times because i'm afraid if I tell my story in some circles i'm just trying to make someone who didn't feel bad. It's like celebrities have so much at their disposal and yet they still choose to give birth naturally so it makes them some kind of saint

Ok someone feel free to come on and tell me to shut up, I know it's great exposure for these articles to be seen because, yes people do emulate celebrities. It's just why do my triumphs with childbirth and breastfeeding feel so insignificant? Yes again, I know they are important to the ones it matters to, the children and my family and I guess that is all that really matters, but just a teeny tiny bit of WOW would be nice.

I haven't read the articles because I am on mobile and using gprs which is very s l l o w, but I do love hearing positive breastfeeding and natural birthing stories. Our society is so celebrity driven that these women who have np practices do their own little bit by talking about it to help normalise natural parenting..

Good to hear! While in line at the check out I looked at Jessica Alba photos and saw a bottle in one shot - big ole judgemental me thought it must be formula I love Angelina and Brad (especially Brad!!!), and so pleased to hear she is breastfeeding twins

Em, please do tell your birth stories every chance you get!
Women who are pregnant for the first time often hear nothing but horror birth stories, so they go into it thinking that those awful things will happen to them too.
I can't birth naturally myself, but I do love to celebrate other women's ability to do it. It can be very hard work, or it might all happen easily, but it's still the most powerful experience a woman can have.

I think it's great! I'm proud of birthing naturally and breast feeding my babies, I don't want to rub it in to women who were unable to or chose not to (!) but I'm not going to pretend like it's not a big deal for me.

Jessica Alba looks so happy in her pic, it's beautiful.

I hope Angelina enjoys bf her twins- it's an enormous achievement ( I realise more and more now that I just have one baby!)

I guess Dorasmum- most people in the celebrity circuit don't go for a VB- so it is a big deal!!
