    Default Stainless steel drink bottles

I have been doing a bit of research on drink bottles and I think stainless steel drink bottles are the best...

Glass is also good but there is the breaking issue if kids are going to take them to school in their bag etc.

The aluminium ones I am just not 100% happy with (even though apparently it's just a myth that aluminium is bad), and I'm not too sure about the lining in them either. Also, we have had an aluminium bottle before and it got dented easily and the paint got chipped and it looked old quickly.

I did a little write up on my blog if you are interested.

And I'm keen to hear your views too

I agree about them getting that beat-up look pretty quickly but I don't mind. The water always tastes cool and fresh from them - unlike from a reused PET plastic bottle or any of the conventional plastic water bottles that come in kids' lunch packs. The only stressy thing is that if the lid gets lost, you have to replace the whole bottle. So I'm a bit of a lid nazi when I let the kids use them.

You can buy one with pop top or sports drink lids which look nifty, but hard to clean.

If you can fork out the cash for anodised steel, they'll look beautiful forever.

We have bought a Klean Kanteen for each of our kids and you can just buy replacement caps for them which is great.

The photo is very close to where we live... I took it about 15 mins drive away. It rains a lot here! We are on the south coast of Western Australia... it's called the "Rainbow Coast" and we do get heaps of rainbows here which is lovely!

Ruth, can I ask where you got your Kleen Kanteens from?

I'm thinking Australian Ebay might be the way to go. I'm looking to get 6 of them and am a little worried about the taxes I could be up for if I ordered them from the US.

If you buy 5 or more from this seller, you get a free tinted stainless steel bottle.

I find Sigg drink bottles the best. Google for info. They come in fun colours and prints. After reading the article in Kindred on the dangers of plastics, I changed over from plastic to Sigg bottle straight away, and haven't looked back. The water never tastes plasticy or metallic, and you can even put juice, coffee or whatever in them and the smell/taste doesn't linger in the bottle after washing.
