Hi, I am currently adding to my cloth nappy collection in preparation for bub #2, and am trying to spread the cost over as long a time as possible (LOL, I'm not even preg. yet!)...I have a dozen each of flannel and terry squares (hate the terry, love the flannel), and would like to get some hemp prefolds or boosters but am not sure where to start. Which brands do you use, is it worth buying some hemp material and attempting to make my own, and how many would I need to go cloth full-time for this bub??? I have heaps of eenee covers so would use those during the day, but am getting tempted by all the pockets that the perth mums keep parading around at our get-togethers, so would use them as stuffers in these as well (I suppose?? Is that right?? I am such a novice!) Do most people just use hemp at night, or during the day as well? What is the life-length of hemp in comparison to flannel/terry? Ahh, I have so much to learn I would also like to use hemp for Oscar's night nappy, I just got some fluffy mail (fleece covers) from Suzanne at Thumbprint behinds, which have so far been good just with flannel squares at night...I don't think Oscar is a heavy wetter...Ah, help, it's all too tempting! If I'm not careful I won't be able to move in the baby's room for all the nappies

Sheryn (http://www.keltorrdesigns.com) makes hemp prefolds but since Fay is local she may be the easier option. If you can buy hemp, I imagine prefolds would be a snip to make yourself. I have a dozen prefolds and find they're lasting a day and a half with my newborn so I'm washing almost every day but I also prefer the hemp to the terry so I don't mind doing that at the moment. As for their life - I'm just starting out with hemp so can't comment but I imaine I'll be putting mine thru their paces as I must rely on my tumble drier all through the winter here in New England. I notice they do shed a lot of lint!! I think prefolds might be a bit thick/bulky for using in pocket nappies. |
