I just had a look at those dolls and am wondering what makes them Waldorf dolls? Arent they just rag dolls? Please educate me as I am looking for toys that encourage Elora to think and feel rather than just press a button or shove a bottle in its mouth.

you can contact any of the steiner chools in sydney. Lorien would likely have someone who is selling them atm. Your also likely to find someone who sells the "kits" to make your own or even find a workshop where they are teaching you how to make them. They are not cheap, becuase of the quality of materials used to make them and the time and skill involved in making a nice doll. If the Schools dont sell them they will certaily be able to point you in the right direction. I got mine from someone who ran a shop form home - they were asscoiated withthe Hazelbrook steiner school here int he mountains. but they have closed down now. For a list of contacts you can go here > http://www.steiner-australia.org/alphabet.html

Here's where my Steiner craft supplier gets her stuff from: http://www.steiner-australia.org/other/winterwood.html The proportions of the dolls and the materials used is really important. The finished product is exquisite and a virtual heirloom. There are a variety of patterns of varying complexity to get you started. I've started with a sack doll as all those arms and legs are just a bit advanced for my needle skills right now. Steiner philosophy does not abide "caricatures" so you'll find the proportions used are true to human scale. |
