Question Poll - your experience with one-to-one care providers

If you have received one-to-one care from an Australian independent midwife (as your in home or in hospital midwife or doula) in the past five years please take a moment to reflect on that experience, complete the poll and if you wish, post a comment on your poll response.

http://www.acmi.org.au/text/corporat...s/codesetc.htm

If you have any questions or concerns about the care you received, the link posted above contains PDF documents pertaining to Australian Midwifery Codes of Practice and Ethics as well as National Competency Standards.

For the sake of obtaining as large a sample size as possible it would be great to get as many responses as possible to this poll. All members, new and old, are invited to participate.

I don't know what to do about members who've had more than one homebirth since multiple answers were possible but not multiple votes. What should we do to address this?

Would you believe I have never posted a poll before? Hope this works!

Look forward to seeing the results of this one. I cant vote as I did have one-on-one care, but with a BC midwife, not an IM.

I don't think I can vote either.

I *would* have HB but the midwife I contacted refused to work with me (and said none of the other 4+ midwives in the area were willing to work with me either) as my due date was too close to Christmas etc.

I can't vote as i didn't have a hb, but I did have a single GP as my care provider when i had Sam. He became unable to continue as my CP on my due date (christmas day) because of cancer. Didn't bother me. Just meant there was a different Dr to stand at the end of the bed with his arms crossed watching, as there were no problems. Two midwives i'd never met before helped deliver Sam, which didn't bother me at all, either.

I had a fantastic IM who supported me and who I knew I could trust. My back up midwife however moved interstate and forgot to tell me Thankfully I didn't need her

I had a similar problem when looking for Aimees birth Meredith! My due date was the start of the school year and all the midwives had school aged kids.
I had a great midwife who worked well with the code of practice, was ethical and competent.

ooops - didn't read it was supposed to be IMs only and in a homebirth environment. Sorry - can you take my vote out please?? I voted that mine were competent, operated in within the code of practice and was ethical.

I voted that the midwife acted within the code of conduct was ethical and competent. I feel very blessed, she was exactly what i had expected and hoped for, luckily because the other midwives i contacted were either did not respond or i did not feel good about.

The midwife and doula we hired were great, very ethical and professional. We are going with a different IM this time and she comes very highly reccomended so should be very positive too.
