Default The Business of Being Born - doco

I saw this here in Adelaide yesterday, and thought it was well worth seeing.

There are screenings across Australia going on at the moment so you can check out dates and locations here:
http://www.thebusinessofbeingborn.com/screenings.htm

It is specific to the US system, but our c-section rates are not too different to theirs, so still very relevant information, i think, It also looks at the importance of choice of caregiver, historical aspects of the medicalisation of birth (including some horrible images of women being tied down on their backs during labour during the early 1900s), as well as a smattering of very humourous moments (thank goodness, as I felt a lot of the info was rather grim). Also includes some beautiful birthing moments. (Take some tissues)

Anyway here's the link:

It was a brilliant film. I saw it on Saturday night. Some very confronting images as you said, but some beautiful birth highlights too.

It was on up at Caboolture Hospital on Saturday night. I think that HMA, FBC and MC are organising another one together though......

I think MC is planning a Brisbane screening for early next year.

If you are in Sydney I am co-organising a screening in Parramatta - I think it is a must see documentary. To find out more visit www.pregnancy.com.au

It hasn't yet been released in the US Sarah. Australia is getting advance screening privileges if the showings benefit non-profit agencies.

I think it will become available for purchase (and possibly for hire) in March.... I would imagine that orgs like Homebirth Network SA will buy copies and lend it out to members, so maybe try contacting a birth advocacy group in your area then....
