Default Homebirth on CMP - Perth?

Has anyone had a homebirth in Perth; either on the midwifery program or hired an independant MW?

I'd love to hear any recommendations - this will probably be our choice for no.2!!!

I had Lynda (as an indie though) and I was impressed. Marilyn was my back up and I really clicked with her too.

Whats an 'indie' ?

Did you go through the program or hired them independantly?

'indie' is slang for independent

I'm applying onto the CMP for bub number 3, and have every expectation of a perfect home birth. The CMP does have limitations (not being able to support vbac at home, 'post dates' issues, and a number of other 'high risk' conditions that can bump you off the program) but all in all it is an awesome resource which provides a great opportunity for Perth mums

Best wishes on your journey to number 2, I'm sure you'll have a beautiful birth whatever you choose.

I went through the CMP and it was awesome. I was told that once on the program, they cant kick you off, Its up to you, and they will still support you... but yeah to get on it, you need to be low risk.

I dunno, just what my mw told me cos I asked.

Best wishes!

I have had a homebirth through the cmp and also hired a mw independently. Each birth was amazing and the midwives were awesome. There are drop in times to meet ind midwives, maybeone of the perth mamas can tell you when as i am a bit out of touch living down south. I assume the cmp has a similar drop in info room?

I went through the CMP for both my children. It was fantastic. Needed to transfer to hospital with my first - so comforting to have my trusted MW there to support me. Second time homebirth as planned. Both very different and wonderful experiences. Two different midwives, who provided the support I needed for each particular journey. I wouldn't do it any other way.

I went through CMP just 5 months ago for my first bub and it was incredible. I have worked in many hospitals and so have seen both sides and I have to say that for me personally, I could not imagine giving birth any other way...

As long as your pregnancy is low risk, it is a wonderful option that usually gives fantastic, positive outcomes - it was an experience I have felt lucky to have an would definately reccomend!

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at CMP - they were extremely supportive of all my choices and I never felt pressured or swayed into going for any treatment or tests or doing anything I did not feel comfortable with.

During the birth, they pretty much let me do my own thing and didn't disturb me with anything unescessary. My midwife was there, and I knew it if I needed her but I didn't feel like I had an audience - which really helped me stay focused!

Also, I love the water-birth option and the fact that you can have as many or as few people at the birth as you like...

If you're thinking about a homebirth, I would definately have a chat with CMP... maybe just pop in to one of the centres and have a look at the info? Theres one in Freo & Leederville.
I know, I've already said it but the program is great and its free!!

HTH, Good luck & congratulations!

The CMP is fantastic. The midwives are some of the most experienced in WA. They are stricter on entry (VBAC etc) than they were a few years ago but they had to change so they were able to continue the service.

My daughter was born at home on the program 13 months ago. People think I'm loopy when I tell them I love birth, was the best day of my life.....and those birthing baths really are bliss. The natural epidural. The midwives will let you have the birth you want, you can negotiate almost anything. A lady at work recently had a lotus birth, definitely wouldn't have been possible in a hospital.

The CMP won't kick you off the program if something develops during your pregnancy, or birth for that matter. You'll still see your primary midwife and she'll go to the hospital with you if you need to transfer. My friend found it invaluable having her at the hosp. She was confident every intervention the hospital did was necessary and her midwife explained everything to her, and acted as her representative when the hosp. wanted to do things that just weren't necessary. The needle to birth the placenta for example, you'd have to be one determined woman to argue against that in a hospital, but the midwife managed it and succeeded.
