Default Eye drops for baby

I'd never heard of this until someone mentioned it the other day....maybe it was a midwife (can't remember). Anyway, they were talking about the baby having eye drops after they are born. Is this routine? Is it really beneficial? DD was taken away straight away after her birth for suctioning, so they may have put eye drops in, I have no idea.

Default Re: Eye drops for baby

they do in America but I don't think they do in Australia, it's because bub can get some infection from mum durring birth. Another one of thoes situations where it's happened to a small amount of bubs so to stop it ever happening again they will subject all babies to it.

If you want to do it, get them to wait a few hours as it won't make a difference to the infection possibility but will alow you time to bond with your baby while that can see you (the drops make their sight blurry for a while)
