Default Fabric for Wrap

I have been trying to wear (I use this term loosely because we both wiggle around uncomfortably for the duration of our outing) a ring sling for about 4 months now. It dosen't seem to be working for us that well. Seems to be too much pressure on one sholder and I think DS feels hidden away as he likes to have a good sticky beak every now and again.
So we are interested in wrapping, but I'm wondering about fabric.
I wouldn't mind a bit of stretch and length, but I also need something that won't be too hot and pretty supportive as DS is still quite floppy and very heavy

Thanks so much

I thinks its jersey knitt that is the best for a home made wrap...i will have a look and see if i can find the links to making your own...hopefully some one else here can point you in the right direction!

CJ doesnt like having his head hidden away either, in our hotsling he lies with his head the 'opposite' side that it should be, but its luckily got padding on the edges so he rest his head on that.

this is the one i used and found it great, you may be able to use a mesh fabric that has only a little bit of give and stretch to make it a bit cooler.

I think i went to the hugabub website to find out how to wrap it.

i wear a gauze wrap, as a jersy wrap can be too stretchy once a bub reaches a certain weight. i can wear a gauze wrap all day here (35 degrees + most days) and it's great for wearing in the water too.

I have a Hug-a-Bub and a Lana Wrap and love both. I think the fabric depends on how you want to wear your baby. I have found the Hug-A-Bub great when my babies were really small and the stretchy material allow for them to be worn easily on my front. I could pull them in and out and breastfeed easily. The Lana Wrap is made of an organic cotton and is not very stretchy at all. This has been fabulous for wearing my babies on my back. To wear a baby on your back in a wrap you need to "throw" them over your shoulder. A stretchy material would not be a good idea as it could become a sling-shot! The firmer material is also great for holding baby in place and not stretching out and then allowing them to slip through on your back.

I love wraps. They are so versitile and give you so much freedom while having baby close.

Thanks ladies.
I think I will give the gauze wrap a go, It's supposed to be crazy hot here tomorrow so I love the idea of heading into the water with the wrap!

Hope you stay cool tomorrow.

Maybe make it to the Kensington playgroup in the New Year and try on some different wraps of other mamas and get some ideas of what you are looking for.
